Free wireless internet throughout Paris by the end of 2007

According to the mayor of the French capital, by the end of 2007, the whole of Paris will be connected to the wireless internet network.

Bertrand Delanoe said in a statement on Thursday that ISPs will be allowed to install antennas in public areas and set up hundreds of connection points for those looking to browse.

In Paris, most households have broadband internet access, but if all goes according to plan, in a year almost all of the city, parks, libraries, and larger public areas will have free access to and use of Wi-Fi. The specifics and details of the draft will be made public next week, and it is certain that the maintenance of the wireless internet network would be taken care of by private companies.
