Humor, sex, net - this is what young people need!

They aren’t really interested in serious genres, they’re more of a fan of animated films and realities. At the same time, they like to talk about what they saw on the screen, especially if there is sex on the show - according to the second part of the representative trend research conducted by MTV Hungary, which was conducted among the 15-24 age group.

Humor, sex, net - this is what young people need!

Compared to the international survey of the entertainment channel for young people, the media consumption habits of Hungarian young people are hardly different from those of their peers worldwide.

Although time spent in front of a screen is increasingly split between a television and a monitor, TV is still the most popular medium among 15- to 24-year-olds, who themselves report spending an average of 17,5 hours a week in front of a screen. A survey conducted jointly by MTV Hungary and the research institute GKIeNET shows, among other things, when the device is switched on, in contrast to the older age groups, those under 24 choose fundamentally different genres.

Sex in reality yes, porn no

While those over the age of 25 sit in front of the screen for the most part for news and educational programs or for watching movies, young people are less interested in serious programs. They prefer cartoons instead; nearly half of the age group surveyed prefer to turn on the TV for an animated series than those over 25 years of age. Thus, it is not surprising that the spontaneous awareness of newer cartoons based on astringent humor and mockery is the highest among 15-24 year olds.

Realities, reality shows, are also popular genres among young people, especially young ladies: 15% of girls between the ages of 24 and 47 said they were particularly happy to watch such a show. When asked why they watched realities, funny scenes and depictions of human relationships and quarrels were highlighted the most. While the portrayal of sexuality among young men in one show is also particularly pronounced, for girls between the ages of 15 and 24, love is still one of the most interesting content. With regard to the appearance of sex, it is an interesting fact that in relation to direct sexual content, ie porn, young people, regardless of gender, have the lowest rate of acceptance, 44%, while among those over 35 this number is already 55%. At the same time, they are caught up in reality-type shows dealing with the consequences of juvenile sex, which is justified by the fact that these series serve as a good topic of conversation, especially for girls.

Theme is TV

In this respect, Hungarian girls work in the same way as their counterparts in other parts of the world. MTV's worldwide research in 15 countries, Millenials Studio, shows that girls almost anywhere in the world love to talk about what they saw on TV, especially when it comes to showcases that show emotions, relationships, and sequels. But this is not the only similarity between the young people of the world and Hungarians: for the 15-24 age group, watching TV seems to be more and more a community activity: the young age group is more likely to watch reality shows and humorous shows in company. The company accounts for the largest proportion (more than 40%) of the family, and about 20% prefer to watch both types of shows with their friends, according to a survey of channels that have been broadcasting series and realities in recent years.

Always online

The role of the community is also a major driver of young people’s willingness to use the Internet. The international Millenials study shows that young people everywhere are unanimous in their belief that a constant online presence is essential for them to stay in touch. Hungarian young people think similarly in this respect, answering the question of where they use the Internet “almost everywhere” in almost the same proportion (about 15%) as the 25-35 age group with independent earnings. In addition, those aged 15-24 have the highest rates of mobile devices such as smartphones for internet use: one in four young people have such a device.
