How to make GeForce 8800 GTX 8800 Ultra?

Based on our news so far, everyone has figured out that the transformation will be fairly straightforward.

According to the INQUIRER, there will be only a clock difference between the two cards, and not much. The prevalent view so far is that the core range of the 8800 Ultra will be 675 MHz, but Inq says it will only raise 37 MHz, which means 612 MHz.

On the other hand, they raise the clock of memories more drastically. Compared to the 8800 GHz of the 1,80 GTX, a value of 2,16 GHz is expected, which means 103,68 GB / s data transfer. This approximates the 2900 GB / s measured on the ATI HD 105,60XT.

As previously reported, the new NVIDIA card is expected to be a paper tiger, meaning it will mostly exist only on paper, not to be found on store shelves. However, there can be no reason for great sadness as we can buy the 8800 GTX. Obviously, raising the clock of the core should not be a problem, much less tuning the memory. According to our source, in order to reach the Ultra memory clock signal almost certainly, we need to increase the memory voltage by 0,05 volts. So that means we have to modify the card. We cannot yet report how this can be done, but such a small increase is likely to be achieved with simple pencil tuning, i.e., it may be sufficient to treat the appropriate resistance with a little graphite to reduce the resistance value and increase the voltage on the memories.

Such a transformation, of course, is not safe, so only those who trust their dexterity so much that they do not ruin their card should try it. The conversion may also void the warranty.
