Gigantic memory on low-end cards

GeForce cards with 1GB of memory were announced by Point of View.

There could be several reasons for this action of Point of View, which our Readers will certainly call another "peasant blinding" according to the everyday usage. Well, according to the sudden editorial exchange, either the manufacturer gets GDDR2 memories very cheaply, or as a result of a spontaneous survey, they came to the conclusion that there is indeed a demand for versions of cards blessed with relatively poor 3D performance equipped with as much memory as possible. It is even conceivable that the low-mid GeForce family does not sell as planned, so the manufacturer is forced to use such customer-attracting tricks.

The truth is in POV anyway, so let’s talk more about cards. The two newcomers are based on the NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT and 8600 GT chips, as mentioned, with 1GB of memory per head. In terms of cores, almost reference clocks - 500 and 540 MHz - can be reported, but there has been some reduction in the memory compartment thanks to GDDR2. The chips only operate at 600 MHz, but if the specifications are true, there may be some spare in the 2,8 ns modules.

We don't have any information about availability and price yet, we are curious to see how much the extra memory will throw in the otherwise friendly price.
