GELID fans - in the spirit of silence
The surprise is a processor cooler, and it’s a surprise because I haven’t talked about it so far. So and so, we got not only fans, but also a cooler that can be used on the Intel front for the 775 boards, while on the AMD side up to the AM2 sockets.
Since more serious measurements made no sense in the absence of competitors, I do not provide graphs now. Nonetheless, of course, I snaped the cooler into a configuration, if for no other reason, to get some idea of the performance.
The refrigerator itself is a well-constructed commodity with four heat-conducting tubes. The base and the block in contact with the processor are nickel-plated. The arrangement of the ribs is on the Thermalright, which is positive. The mount has a completely traditional “push, snap” system, which is probably sufficient for this rib due to its low weight. The fan is quiet like the other products of the manufacturer, bearing noise cannot be heard from the wind noise at all. At maximum speed, the manufacturer makes 25,8 dBA of noise, which may be pretty much true, but what’s the point, it’s also due to the movement of the air, not the loud operation of the engine. The minimum noise level is 10 dBA, which may seem a little too low, I would rather set it to 15 on my ear. Let's just say it doesn't matter, since under 20 no noise is filtered out of the closed house.
The total weight of the refrigerator is 370 grams, the life of the fan is 50 thousand hours, the manufacturer gives a five-year warranty. Encouraging values!
There are two things to highlight about the design. On the one hand, the fan is not fixed, but sits on rubber mounts, which is good for reducing noise. On the other hand, the heat dissipating lamellae, together with these, the fan does not run completely parallel to the base plate, so that the generated warm air flows out from under the ribs more easily.
Overall, this product also looks like a quality piece. We cannot find any flaws in its materials or design. We did not experience any problems during the trial. Attached to the standard Smithfield procink, the refrigerator loosely took the hurdle posed by the heavy amount of heat.
Summary
Towards the end of this short article, I must say that GELID products have come as a surprise in a positive sense. I came across serious, really demanding pieces. The turbocharged plain bearing and slightly different fluid solution than the traditional one did good for both fan types.
Thus, based on the first trial, I definitely classify the products in the recommended category. Of course, the test of pudding is eating, and the fans have a lasting use, so after all this time, I can’t comment on how the bearing will stand the test of time. What is certainly encouraging, however, is that the more expensive fans and processor cooler have a five-year warranty from the manufacturer.
I really liked GELID products!
