Ukrainian members of the international hacker group Anonymous hacked into an email from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, claiming they had obtained a number of confidential information that Kiev had been trying to keep secret for many years.

Hackers allegedly accessed the wallet's correspondence by hacking the security system of the EuroTraceTelcom service provider.

The Ukrainian branch of Anonymous also published a video message on the Internet, in which they announce that they have begun the operation called "Independence". They declare that they oppose Ukraine's European integration. According to the hackers, Ukraine should remain independent from both Europe and Russia and go its own way.

"The Ukrainians are aware that the signing of the association agreement with the European Union in November will soon lead to the collapse of the Ukrainian economy," the message states. As a sign of their protest, the hackers planned to attack web resources that, according to them, "threaten the freedom and independence of Ukraine."

"The first of the information obtained from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the correspondence between Ukraine and Azerbaijan related to the trade in crude oil and natural gas," Anonymous said, adding that documents related to the imprisoned former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko were also among the letters mentioned.

The hacking group claims several letters to Yevhen Bakulin, director of Naftohaz’s Ukrainian state gas company, about his relations with, among others, the Russian Security Service (FSB), oil and gas companies in the United Arab Emirates and Azerbaijan.

They also said they had access to confidential information about military shipments.

Currently, a 250-megabyte file can be downloaded from the Anonymous website, which contains documents on Ukrainian-Azerbaijani relations.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has not yet commented on the news of the hacker attack.
