DVDx v2.4: DVD / VCD / SCVD / AVI converter

With a simple, easy-to-use, free program, you can create VCD 2.0, SVCD 1.0, and DivX files from DVD.

Nowadays, movies are mainly shown on DVD, as they fit on this medium with relatively good quality, surround sound and lots and lots of extra information. With DVDx software, you can easily and relatively quickly back up or compress a video file from your original discs, saving your discs from frequent use.

The DVDx program can create a VCD / SVCD / AVI version of a movie in one step. The DVD can be converted directly from the disc, the hard disk, and individual VOB or MPEG files can be opened separately. You can specify which of the multiple audio tracks on the disc to use for the converted video file, and you can also keep Dolby Surround surround sound. In the case of DVD movies without Hungarian sound, we can select the one suitable for us from the several subtitles stored in parallel, which will be encoded on the picture.

The program determines the number of frames per second for us, but we can influence it ourselves. This is 25 for domestically released DVDs and 23,976 or 29,97 for overseas material. You can then decide whether to choose the older standard VCD format based on MPEG1 compression or the newer, higher resolution and MPEG2-based SVCD. Among other things, you can specify the resolution (PAL 480 × 576 or NTSC 480 × 480) and the aspect ratio (4: 3 or 16: 9). You can set the size at which the program will cut and launch the file that matches the next disk. For help, the preset values include the 74 and 80 minute CDs.

During the encoding process, the program shows where we are in the film and also provides information about the speed of compression as well as the expected completion time.
