DDR2 versus DDR3 test

Is the new standard faster?

The website Overclock3D.net has done nothing more than expose Asus' two new flagship Bearlake cards to each other. The only difference between the two boards was the supported memory standards, the "plain" P5K Deluxe strengthens the DDR2 family, while the P5K3 Deluxe is one of the first pioneers on the DDR3 front. This is a battle of generations, let's see who will be the winner!

Test configuration:

  • Asus P5K and P5K3 Deluxe
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 @ 3 GHz (333 × 9)
  • Kingston PC2-9600 2 GB DDR2-1066 MHz, CL 5-5-5-15
    Kingston PC3-11000 2 GB DDR3-1333 MHz, CL 7-7-7-20
  • XpertVision ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512 MB
  • Hitachi Deskstar 7K80 SATA2 80GB
  • Windows XP SP2
    ATI Catalyst 7.4.44981
    Intel INF 8.300.1013
