Powerful hardware, huge battery, yet filigree and modern.

Introductory

Although we do not say that the battery technology does not develop, it can be said that it is not nearly as fast as we want it to. Our phones are getting bigger, and even though Android is getting less and less energy-efficient, the ever-growing processors and ever-expanding displays boost energy.

We have two options nowadays. We are looking for a modern, slim phone with a small capacity battery that can be used with one and a half, or very sparingly, to pull out two days without charging, or we buy a heavy bulb with either 5-6-7 days you can also call without charging. In the intermediate space there is a small selection.

The Cubot Power was in this gap, got a decent but not huge battery and got more than decent hardware. Large display, powerful mid-range proci, lots of memory and more mass storage. A very good combination of what we got up to, and we soon ordered one.

Packaging and exterior

Cubot Power arrives in a black box that is familiar with the copier, on the cover with the phone's name. Inside, the same as the other Cubos, the top tray of the phone, underneath it's three boxes, the manual, the silicone back cover, the needle for the SIM tray, the Type-C cable, and the charging head. In addition to this, we can not find other accessories, but we did not expect anything other than the usual package. Maybe they could have put a spare film, but do not be impatient.

The phone is waiting for us in the top tray. Emphasizing the first impression that it is all thin. Of course there is a little trick, the phone is even thicker than the case of a Xiaomi MIX 2 in the silicone case, but it's already stretched to the extreme thin. The trick is in the back of the back, which starts at around one centimeter from the edge and agressively tilts to the frame, which is rounded. By this method you have reached the phone as a large soap dish in your hand, you do not want to crawl and catch it as well.

The outside is more than acceptable, the shape, the shiny metallic frame, and generally the whole phone gives a high quality feel, we were especially pleased with it. The 158,35 x 74,39 millimeter size has a 10,75 millimeter thickness, and the whole stuff is only 215 grams, which you believe is virtually magical in this category. Of course, in order for the mass to remain low, the back cover and the frame were shiny plastics, neither the glass nor the metal would have reached the weight of the phone unduly.

Buttons are normal, so the power and volume keys on the right side of the screen are located on the right and the SIM tray is just opposite. The loudspeaker grille and the Type-C connector are waiting for us at the bottom of the phone, and at the top we also have a traditional jack.

The front panel is completely conventional, the side frames are extremely thin compared to the size of the phone, and the bottom and the top are normal, so the camera and sensors and the loudspeaker are used in the thicker frame. Fortunately, there is no trace of the notch, at least in this case we will consider the lack of something, specifically the notch.

The back cover has not been overwhelmed, and above the chromium-framed fingerprint sensor, there is a flashlight and a camera that can get a very honest resolution on paper. The Fingerprint Sensor is positioned well, with our fingers pointing automatically wherever it is, without looking, and the camera is in the top position, so it does not cover it and do not accidentally pinch the fingerprint sensor instead of fingerprints.

Hardware

Processor, memory, mass storage

If you do not mind, I will not go back to the description of the central chip because we've already met enough about MediaTek Helio p23 for this site. Now, it's enough that the first telehandle at the end of last year came this spring, so this is a very modern stuff. This is reflected in the capabilities, supports high resolution displays and high definition cameras, and radios are good, including Cat 6 LTE.

The 8 core of the processor is divided into two groups, with the maximum 2,5 GHz speed on the top cluster nowadays almost all. Obviously not a Snapdragon 845, but it's not the price, so here's a small, but uncomfortable, compromise here.

So there is no problem with the speed of the system, despite the high resolution, the picture is fine, without jams and smooth movement, we do not experience any stoppage during scrolling. This is obviously to be expected from a modern high-clock eight-core process. The test programs say this as well, no surprise anywhere, and in this case it is better than bad. The Helio P23 brings what we expect from him, and even if you make the OUKITEL K10 results, you can see that despite the same SoC, the Cubot performs quite well. 

What's more, though, is the memory and the storage of the phone, since 6 GB comes from the former, and 128 GB is now available, and this is still a big deal nowadays, bigger 256 GB storage space is available only on very expensive phones.

Display

The display is one of the biggest virtues in the phone. The 5,99 panel is inches the aspect ratio of the usual 18: 9, and the resolution is a decent FHD, ie 2160 x 1080 pixel. The brightness is not a bit steep but thanks to the blacks are very good, the contrast is remarkably good and somehow, although the numbers do not show this, the display gives a particularly praised quality. Color fidelity and generally the color of the vibrancy is perfect, the image is beautiful and not in the sense that, of course, it is beautiful because it is high resolution but in a sense that it is good to look at it. The colors have been calibrated a little bit cold, but this only says to me the perfect, but never finding, self. The viewing angles are very good, of course no wonder the IPS panel is just that. The colors are still pretty sharp even from the sharp angle, we see a little discoloration from the side but we're not sure this is not the effect of digitizer over the panel.

Communication

We have already written about the LTE radio upstairs, but let's look at things in a bit more detail! Most importantly, the dual-card phone supports both the B20 800 MHz bands used in the home using the 300 megabit on the mobile network for both cards. Although the phone is clearly saying that it is only half-true to handle the two SIM cards, it is only capable of dual standby mode. We did not encounter weakness either in the quality of the speech or in the speed of the mobile phone during use, everything was impeccable.

The wifi supports dual channel but "only" the n standard. There is, of course, Bluetooth, but NFC is no longer in the bundle. We get OTG, as well as wifi direct and standard hotspot modes.

Do not forget navigation when it comes to radios. Your phone has the right kit for tracking GPS satellites, but GLONASS support is also built. According to our experience, taller buildings will last for as long as a sufficient number of satellites are found, but if they are there, the navigation will be sufficiently accurate and fast. It's not a military precision, but we're getting used to the more normal phones that we get here. In the free field, of course, the system starts to accelerate, basically neither in the former nor in the latter case we have found a point to which we could get involved.

Kamerák

So far, we've been celebrating Cubot Power, but we can not do this with cameras. Looking at the rear panel, for example, it is proven that, in vain, the high-resolution, otherwise strong middle-quality Samsung sensor with its 20 megapixel, if the camera software and / or the lens system above the sensor are only of medium quality.

In the paintings, it seems as though there was always something in the darkness that we did not really know where to go. The manual setting did not help. The colors are still in place, but the HDR is already overwhelmed while the veil is still present. The software's noise reduction function also fits the quality of the camera's other capabilities. At times, it's ugly to blur everything, when we look at the full resolution, things are disrupting in some places that have a bad impact on detail and edges.

We also had a problem with the focus, which, after a lot of hesitation, dictated that he was unwilling to work. If it was able to set it up, then it would have to be normal amount of light, and it would not be worth trying at night.

The lens system is no good either. On the edges of these cameras, the distortion is commonplace, but at Cubot Powere it is more confusing than usual. We can often see chromatic aberration, and somehow some details are lost in a strong light.

We do not say that the camera is useless, but if you choose this phone, do not take it because you want the 20 megapixels to give you important moments of your life. To make a memory of each picture is perfect, but do not expect it any more!

Battery

From the description of the hardware, you should not miss this, especially because it is one of the biggest advantages of the phone against competitors. The 6000 mAh capacitance today is really a lot to say, with us we used four and a half to five days in normal use, while the mobile was switched on, there was a little navigation, photography and video, so we used it. Obviously, with many phone calls, you can still get zero in 1-2 days, but this is already extreme use. For example, with a charge, for example, you can watch a video on a continuous 15 hour, which does not seem to count much, but if we think about watching movies from morning till night to 11, then we would not say little.

Szoftver

There are some topics that can not be written litanies, such as the Cubot Power software. The manufacturer did not make a lot of mistakes, snapped the virgin Android 8.1 on the phone, and we would like to serve this as a disadvantage rather than a special benefit. We specifically hate phones with unnecessary factory rubbish, think of Samsung's stuff here, for example. Of course a MIUI system is not bad, there are many comfortable things, but we can not imagine much better on a virgin Android.

The system requires a relatively small amount of resources, everything works nicely smoothly. True, for extra features, we often need to search in the store, but at least we can use the software that we want, not what we're trying to do. In this way, you can use your favorite media player or launcher application.

Summary

The Cubot Power is a good phone, even if the article ends with the only negative of the camera. The company was able to solve the problem of long battery life and battery life, since the 6000 battery was not exactly the same size that could only be used to make a bumble phone. Of course, we can find a phone that has a similar battery life from a smaller capacity battery, but who has used such a large phone, knowing that the difference is felt.

The central unit of the phone is quite economical, and the software is also a good choice because the 8.1 Android's saving features are very much in the way. In tests, you like to emphasize how many hours you can watch videos on your phone with a charge, but these data will not tell you anything about real usage. The phone is spending more time in relax mode than active so we consider it much more important to see how much it consumes. And here's how Android is getting better and more enjoyable in the rest mode.

With the current very low exchange rate, the phone is still under $ 1000 for 60, which we think is a great price for it. If you have a good display and long battery life, maybe videos, listening to music, this is your phone. In one case, do not buy it if you're looking for a camera instead of a camera, in this case add another Cubot Powere price and get really good cameras.
