The end of the year was also about Trojans

There were no major changes in the first half of the December ESET virus list compared to the previous month. The field is still driven by the Win32 / Bundpil worm, which can spread to external media and cause real damage by deleting both our executable and backup backup files from our drives.case smart_security_01

The Conficker worm battled itself out in sixth place, and after a two-month hiatus, we find the Win32 / virut worm in the top ten again. We can also meet a new entrant, Win32 / TrojanDownloader.Wauchos in ninth position.

Win32 / TrojanDownloader.Wauchos is a trojan whose main purpose is to download additional malicious code from the Internet to an infected computer. It opens a backdoor on the attacked system through which it receives commands, allowing attackers to remotely execute arbitrary code.

In the December issue of ESET Threat Radar Report, in addition to the usual year-end summary, there was also a scam in which companies receive spam that an alleged Chinese domain registrar receives a registration request under .asia containing their company name. The author of the letter is asking us for approval, by clicking on the attached malicious link or running the attached attachment. You should be aware of the method and be careful. You should never click on links or attachments in unsolicited mail from unknown senders.
