WebOS, LG's new Smart TV platform

LG bought the webOS platform from Hewlett-Packard last March and developed the new Smart interface based on this.

WebOS 1

The webOS development team’s many years of experience and hard work have resulted in a convenient and refreshingly easy-to-use, user-friendly Smart TV interface.

An additional benefit of the new platform, for example, is that it is extremely easy to develop applications and further increase the compatibility of LG Smart TVs with other smart devices.

The first time you turn on the LGOS TVs with webOS, an animated figure named BeanBird appears on the screen to help you connect and guide the user through the setup process. The viewer can request further advice from the virtual helper bird at any time by simply shaking the Magic Remote motion-sensing remote control or by pressing the OK button. WebOS instantly detects the type of external device connected to the TV and displays optional usage options in a pop-up menu.

One of the most unique features of webOS is the new Launcher menu that scrolls to the side at the bottom of the screen. Launcher allows you to switch between TV broadcasts, content available on the Smart Interface, and media stored on external devices without having to go back to the home page. It allows users to search for and download other content while watching TV, playing games, or browsing. In the Live menu, which can also be opened while watching TV, the search, program guide and channel functions also remain easily accessible.
