AMD has launched its AM3 processors

In the first wave, we get to know five new CPUs - and the latest tests.

Starting today, Phenom IIs are battling the competition on every front, as the most important feature of the AM3 CPUs is the integrated DDR3-1333 RAM controller. The AM3 units are also compatible with the AM2 + socket, as the DDR2 memory controllers (1066 MHz) have not been left out of them either.

The following new 45nm newcomers are arriving: X4 910, 810 and 805 (2,6 GHz, 2,6 GHz and 2,5 GHz). The 800 Series differs from its predecessor only in its reduced L3 cache: it has 6 MB instead of 4 MB; for now, we only know the price of the X4 810: $ 175.

The remaining two contestants come from the camp of three cores: X3 720 Black Edition and 710. Both have 6 MB of third-level cache and clock speeds of 2,8 and 2,6 GHz, and goods: $ 145 and $ 125. All newly released Phenom II has a TDP of 95 W.
