ASUS My Cinema-US2-400 tuner - Hybrid travel companion

We continue writing where we left off on the previous page. So the tuner software, ArcSoft, called Total Media, is launched.

In the main menu you can choose from five items:

• TV: Watch a TV show
• Picture: Picture viewer
• Radio: Listen to radio channels
• Video: View recorded footage
• Setup: Set up the device

To get started, let's run through the configuration options with a few pictures:

TV

The most important function of a tuner is to ensure the trouble-free operation of television, but today's modern gadgets already offer many other useful, additional services.

EPG (electronic program guide) and Teletext:

It is not closely related to the tuner, but rather to the digital broadcast EPG (Electronic Program Guide), which, to put it simply, is practically a modern day Teletext. Of course, those who prefer the old "mode" don't have to worry either, the good old Teletext is also available.

Channels:

Under the Channels tab, you can see the available (and previously searched) channel offerings for both TV and radio broadcasts. The m1 and m2 we have run so far are no longer on the list, there is probably no formal agreement on the radiation, so for now. However, the RTL club will be available from the second week of this month, and TV2 will probably start in July (latest information: TV2's broadcast will start on XNUMX June). Together with the Danube and Danube II (Autonomy), we can currently freely catch three (four) channels digitally, and three are also available for radios.

Pictures

Image viewer function. If someone thinks you want to use Total Media for this purpose, you have the opportunity. Another advantage is that when you view, say, a recorded image, some still images related to the topic come to mind, so you don't have to exit the program and search Windows, but you can access the content you want to view with a few keystrokes.

Radio

Search, save and add radio stations. The interface is similar to a real device, there are nine memory slots, the frequency can be changed, recorded, etc. in small steps.

Video

As already mentioned, the contents can also be recorded, for example, on the 4 GB of flash memory built into the device. If we have different plans, that’s no problem either, burning to disc isn’t missing from Total Media’s repertoire either.

GadgeTV

ASUS also comes with a small but useful feature for the US2-400 called ASUS GadgeTV. From this, you can already guess that it is a gadget, so you definitely need Windows Vista to use it (we don't have information about whether it works on Windows 7, but we wouldn't be surprised if it did). There are two ways to use the gadget: by placing it on the sidebar (in which case its size matches the size of the sidebar) or detaching it, in which case you can enjoy the broadcast in a larger window.
