Should heart patients avoid the iPod?

Slowly, we have become accustomed to scientists classifying almost all products and devices as harmful to health, and this is no different in the case of Apple's music player.

A 17-year-old Michigan high school researcher concluded that iPods could cause malfunctions. In the study, the student used about 83 older people with heart disease to achieve the most comprehensive result possible: he placed the music player about 5 inches from his chest and then put it into operation for a shorter time - 5-10 seconds.

In 29% of cases, the iPod caused a disturbance in reception, and in about 20 percent of cases, the pacemaker misperceived the heart's function, so this meant less disturbance in its function. Electrical interference also occurred from a distance of 45 cm in one case, while at the other extreme, the medical device stopped.

Regarding the news, we definitely have to note that only iPods were tested during the investigation, so it is not at all ruled out that competing models from other manufacturers would not cause a similar malfunction in the case of the pedestal.
