750 GB Seagate hard drive

Seagate, the world’s largest hard drive manufacturer, has announced a new drive for desktop computers capable of storing 750 gigabytes of data.

This record storage size is due to perpendicular write technology, which allows them to store data on the same surface at a higher density. Thus, the data are not parallel to the surface of the hard disk, but perpendicular to it, i.e. one above the other. This can store up to 230 GB of data on 6,5 square centimeters, but the hard drive must have a more accurate read / write head for proper reading and writing, as it has to perform much finer operations due to the higher density of data.

The Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 Hard Drive Series will be available in 750, 500, 400, 320, 300, 250, and 200 GB sizes with an 8 or 16 megabyte cache. It can communicate with the motherboard via PATA or SATA, depending on the model, and supports native queuing of commands. This latter feature is available if you have a SATA2 controller, such as a motherboard with an nForce4 chipset, and select the appropriate model. Another important data is the speed of the hard disk motor, which in this series is 7200 rpm.

Seagate has not officially commented on what has been said so far.
