NVIDIA Tegra 3 is updated with 2D support

In the 3D craze, NVIDIA has long been at the forefront of its hardware, now looking to move 3D support into the tiniest products with Tegra 2 3D.

NVIDIA is preparing to upgrade the Tegra 2 chip for mobile devices. According to the source, the rework is needed because support for 3D technology is starting to hit its head within the ranks of handheld devices, and NVIDIA wants to respond to the process in a timely manner. Devices equipped with the new Tegra 2 chips will therefore have outputs that will also be able to drive a 3D display.

A according to source the updated system will be developed under the codename Tegra 2 3D and is expected to be unveiled by NVIDIA at one of the best locations, the Mobile World Congress of 2011. The Tegra 2 3D will include two ARM Cortex A9 cores with a 1,2 GHz clock. This design has 5520 MIPS performance, and soon 3D won’t be an obstacle either. Mass production is expected to start at the plants in the first quarter.
