Introductory

Before I bought the subject of the article, I also went through the stairs in smart home construction that many others are likely to have. The easiest and easiest way to smart is to smart the lighting. All it takes is a few smarts with traditional sockets, which we then wrap around instead of the traditional ones, and we can already control the brightness, color temperature, or even the color of the lighting from our phone.

These smartphones can be purchased at a friendly price, you don’t need a mechanic to go with them either, so they’re great things, but they still have one flaw, and that’s the brightness. With us, there are two ceiling lamps in the living room, as long as they had a traditional light bulb, there was not enough light. True, since only energy-efficient burners can be obtained, we’ve had to take a good look at what I’m buying to see.

Then came the smarts of Xiaomi, the RGB versions, that is, the ones that can glow in all the colors of the rainbow. I bought the first version, it was weak, I bought the second version with stronger light, but it was also useless if I wanted normal brightness. In the end, I had to realize that if I really wanted a usable lamp, I would be forced to sacrifice a little more of my money instead of ten dollars. Since I had nothing to do with such a larger Xiaomi lamp, I was a little afraid that it would be a waste of money as well, but luckily the end result was a lot to meet my expectations.

YEELIGHT YLXD39YL - the ceiling lamp

There are also exciting pieces of LED ceiling lights, but if we want something good, we will literally leave our pants at the checkout as well. That’s why I stayed with a traditional round, flat piece. I had my doubts about the slightly dull shape, but as it turned out later, this is not a disadvantage, because the flat lamp “disappears” so much on the ceiling, it doesn’t attract the eye so much that it isn’t disturbing at all. I could say it’s discreet, but maybe that wouldn’t be the most accurate term. The point is, as long as you’re not hooked up, no one will show up.

The shape is therefore traditional, round. The luminaire has a diameter of 45 and a height of only 6 centimeters. The lower part, which is screwed to the ceiling, is of course metal, while the upper, removable piece is plastic. A white frame with a plastic sheet in the middle that perfectly distributes the light from the LEDs.

The removable part can be removed with a twisting motion, it is protected from accidental falling by plastic lugs, which snap into place when inserted. Inside the lamp, screwed to the metal base, we find the PCB, on which the LEDs are arranged in two rows, in a circle. One third of the 81 LEDs are warm and two thirds are cold, and by combining their brightness, the lamp achieves plenty of selectable light effects.

YEELIGHT YLXD39YL - equipment and use

The luminaire is slap-easy to install. We can fix it to the ceiling with four screws, but since it weighs only 2 and a half pounds, with a good dowel, a good screw is enough for two as well. At least for me, it's been half a year now, and you don't even mind falling. Connecting the power is not complicated either. The luminaire has also been grounded, but if the ground cable is not routed to the lamp, there will be no problem either, we rarely hold the lamp on the ceiling. So if we can ground it, safety is better.

I will talk about the use of the lamp, more precisely through the telephone application, in more detail in the next chapter. The point is, if we don’t use any smart devices, we only have a normal light switch on the wall, then the Yeelight ceiling light can work as traditional. Of course, it would be a sin to use it this way, as he knows a lot of cleverness.

We get most of its capabilities through our phone, but if it’s more convenient, we can also buy a remote control for it. Here comes a cleverness right away, namely that we have a Bluetooth interface in the lamp, so we can use not only the remote control, but also the Yeelight Bluetooth wall switch. With the latter, we can switch it on and off simply via a wireless connection, in the same way as a conventional switch, or we can also adjust the brightness as an extra.

YEELIGHT YLXD39YL - telephone application

Yeelight, the Xiaomi smart home, manufactures burners and lamps that can be (also) integrated into the ecosystem. The company was acquired by Xiaomi anyway, so it's not very interesting, especially since many of the company's products can be integrated under Google Home and Amazon Alexa systems. To do this, we find the Yeelight skill under the Alexa app, but it’s worth reading for each product to make sure it works. For me, since I don’t use Alexa, I couldn’t try it. cccc

With us, at home, the Xiaomi ecosystem is working, to which my lights, switches, vacuum cleaner, and soon the front door will close, but I’ll write about that later in a later article if it can be commissioned. The point is that I love this program, friendly, easy to use, easy to set up. Recognizing and connecting devices has been slapping easy since quite a few versions.

Through the program we achieve all the capabilities of the lamp, and from this, there is plenty. Mentioning only the most important ones, we find daylight mimicking the color of sunshine, but we also find nights that mimic moonlight. Of course, in addition to these, the brightness and color temperature can be adjusted on an extremely wide scale. The latter can be controlled between 2700 and 6500 K and the maximum brightness is 2800 lumens. Speaking of light, Xiaomi lamps always highlight how perfect color reproduction is when using their products. For the YEELIGHT YLXD39YL, at a color temperature of 4500 K, this is Ra95, which really brings it closer to natural daylight. This ability is a very good thing, because if we work under a lamp, our eyes are less tired, if we create, say, draw or paint, we can mix colors that are closer to the real thing, and last but not least, it saves our eyes, so we just win, not even a little.

There are predefined lights in the program, but you can also save the settings you like. The simplest modes preset are sun and moonlight, but if you scroll a little further in the program, you’ll find profiles including sunrise, sunset, night light, cinema, reading, candlelight, among others.

Since it is a smart lamp, we can also connect it to the smart system, i.e. we can pair it with different sensors. To give just one example, if you are using a door open sensor or a motion sensor, you can set it to turn on automatically when you get home. We also have the option to turn the lights on or off automatically depending on the time of day. The program automatically detects where we are, so you also know when the sun rises and sets at that location. If that still wasn’t enough, it’s another curiosity. If you use a Xiaomi Mi Band smart bracelet, you can control the lighting with the bracelet via Bluetooth. If we sleep on our wrist with the bracelet (after all, we also monitor sleep), then when we fall asleep, the bracelet automatically turns off the lights.

One more important thing at the end. Novice homeowners are often asked if this can be solved so that we can operate several lights at once with a smart switch or by pressing a button in a program running on our phone. Well, of course the thing can be solved, we can arrange the Yeelight lamps in a group, and in that case all the members of the group behave the same way, of course at the same time. That is, we can switch the group up and down at the same time, they switch to the same preset profiles, and the brightness of each group member's lamp also changes at the same time.

YEELIGHT YLXD39YL - experience

This chapter used to be the most interesting part of the articles, but now it won’t be. In fact, it will actually be downright boring because I can’t report on too much of everything. This lamp is perfect in every way. In terms of brightness, the manufacturer gives a maximum of 25 square meters of room, I can prove this, it is really quite enough for such an area. Its light is great not only for its strength, but also for its controllability. Of course, we use the preset profile for TV every day, but we often choose the sunrise if we get up early in the morning. The moonlight is really very pleasant and sometimes we also select the candlelight when we have a pleasant, conversational evening.

I also wrote above about how easy it is to install, as well as how easy it is to use. We really don’t even have to be an electrician to get it up and running, and we don’t have to be an IT to pair it with the phone app. We just have to use it!

Cue

I think I wrote everything down. I can't really say anything else, the Xiaomi YEELIGHT YLXD39YL was a great choice, I got everything I expected from him. We are not blind at last, the RGB smarts could go to the standing rice lamp, there are three pieces that can be rolled up anyway, and we got perfect mood lighting because of the adjustable color. And the YEELIGHT YLXD39YL does its job on the ceiling, if you need mood lighting, if you need a brightness with all the dust on the table.

The price remained at the end. The Yeelight ceiling light is much more expensive than a smart one, but if we go into the Praktiker, for example, we realize that it doesn’t cost that much after all. For the price of less than 28 thousand forints, at home, in many cases, we only get a “silly” LED lamp with a similar brightness, and let's face it, in the case of the YEELIGHT YLXD39YL, cleverness is a very useful ability, it would be sorely lacking.

So the price of the lamp is currently HUF 27 on the day the article is published, and we have to pay HUF 700 for duty and VAT free delivery.
