XFX GeForce 7800 GS 256MB DDR3 AGP Extreme Edition

While the XFX GeForce 7800 GS with AGP isn’t new, it’s worth introducing one of the most powerful AGP video cards in a few lines.

The XFX’s factory-overclocked graphics controller may be ideal for those who don’t plan to replace their previously built-in AGP system for the time being, but still want to replace their older video card with a more modern one, extending the life of your computer and delaying the need for development.

The GeForce 7800 GS is based on NVIDIA's G70 graphics processor, with 16 pixels, a core clock of 375 MHz instead of the factory 440, and an effective memory frequency of 1,3 MHz for memory, an increase of 100 MHz from the reference value. . The 256 MB of DDR3 graphics memory has a bandwidth of 256 bits, which is also a very positive difference compared to AGP GeForce 7600 GS VGAs.

Unfortunately, the card is not very cheap either, we can buy it in Hungary for an amount over 80 thousand forints, but we must add that the same product of competing manufacturers - such as Leadtek - represents the same price category, but it should be strongly considered, as an AGP 7600 GS is already 40 at a price of around HUF 7800, while a 7900 GTX or 80 GT with a PCIe interface is also available for HUF 7600. Thus, all in all, we have to say that the higher performance provided by the card compared to the 40 GS is probably not worth another XNUMX thousand forints for most people. Even though it’s faster, it’s also much more expensive, so either a weaker AGP VGA might be the ideal solution, or we’d better replace the motherboard and buy a video card with a PCI Express interface.

Guru3D's test here you can read it here, comparing the previous generation of the XFX AGP with the previous generation (6600 GT, 6800 GS and 6800 GT) and a GeForce 7800 GS video card without tuning.
