The AMD Catalyst Un-install Utility can be dangerous

The official utility is able to completely strip the Catalyst drive from our system, including the various registration entries. The application was last updated in January (1.2.1.0), then as described it could be used on Windows 8 and Windows 7. Based on the feedback, there were serious issues in the newer environment, and the Catalyst Un-install Utility may have removed files that were essential to the operation of the operating system.

After the problems arose, AMD reduced support so that the utility can now only be used on Windows 7. Unfortunately, users do not receive a warning before running, so the Catalyst Un-install Utility will start under Windows 8 as well. Here we would note that as long as AMD's position does not change and the update takes place, the use of the utility on this system is especially dangerous!

Product Manager Andrew Dodd Catalyst revealed in an interview that the bug has not yet been reproduced, making it easy to make the fix. In any case, they are working on the case, over time the AMD Catalyst Un-install Utility will be safe to use with Windows 8, but in the meantime we will avoid it in a big arc!
