They got the Maxthon browser on a trick

Some of our readers may still remember the times when it was "fashionable" to spin some synthetic benchmarks (eg 3DMark 2003) using software. Well, Maxthon is now involved in something like that.
maxthon-free-download Earlier, we also reported that the browser washes everyone off the HTML5 test page created by Dutch web developer Niels Leenheer. This seems to be partly the result of a trick. In a Twitter post, the web expert subtly asked Maxthon programmers not to turn on services that didn’t work - like WebGL, getUserMedia, and captions. As an emphasis, he said that if their request is not granted, he will remove the browser from the HTML5test.com database, which will obviously cause some negative repercussions.

It seems the programmers have made the necessary changes, as the Maxthon 3.4.2.900 beta released a few hours ago gets less points than previous versions. The difference is significant: instead of 467, the test page now scores 422 points on the HTML5 compatibility of the browser. This is still outstanding anyway.
