HP has introduced an attractive workstation

The brutally powerful machine knows something most competitors can’t even dream of: it’s dazzling in its simplicity.

Surely the hearts of many of us have warmed our hearts recently Thermal Take Level 10 study, however, it appears that the guest appearance of the BMW DesignworksUSA team did not end so much in the world of computing. Fortunately, their latest creation comes back in the form of the stunningly looking HP Z800 Workstation: although the machine’s appearance has a significantly more consolidated overall effect compared to the study mentioned above, it still beats the implementation seen on most competing machines. It is a special pleasure that orderliness and cleanliness are not only visible on the outside, as there is an exemplary order under the engine room. It couldn’t be any different with an iron of this performance, as the immersive design world is accompanied by wall-breaking performance this time: the machine freshly tested by DVICE performs amazingly, no matter what synthetic test (numerical results below), but expected also during real-life use.

The maximum set that can be parameterized to meet emerging needs will certainly be required by very few customers, but it is commendable that HP has designed a machine to meet future needs. The details of the top configuration are impressive in themselves: this time, two Nehalem-based Intel Xeon W5580 processors, with four separate cores per unit, are responsible for computing capacity. The performance of the next generation of central units is expected to be sufficient for any task that arises, but they will be able to change the clocks automatically, both positively and negatively, if necessary, to a limited extent. All this is done with the help of Hyper-Threading technology, which allows the operating system to work with a total of 16 separate processing units. Of course, you also need the right amount of memory to take advantage of the rampant performance: the Z800 can hold up to 196GB of RAM, which harmonizes well with the power dormant in the processor. The same can be said for the rest of the machine, as the two NVIDIA Quadro FX 5800 graphics cards and the 15000 rpm SAS hard drive also deliver peak performance. The latter unit can be optionally replaced with an SSD drive, which further silences the already noisy configuration. For the same purpose, at an additional cost, HP engineers are converting the system to a fully water-cooled system, so you can build a virtually completely noiseless server from the Z800.

Depending on the installation, the price of the device, which can be bought in shops with a brushed aluminum nook, can knock the stars out of the sky: the machine tested in the DVICE workshop with the usual parameters in the category NVIDIA Quadro FX 12 graphics card with 146 GB of dedicated memory) can be purchased for about two and a half million dollars. Hmm, the latter would be strong even for an April joke, right?
