A complete turnaround is expected in the desktop processor market

After the so-called mainstream desktop platform (AM4), HEDT, the high-end sector, will be AMD’s next target.

A complete turnaround is expected in the desktop processor market

So far, it has not been a seven-seal secret that the company is preparing for this year with an update to its highly customized Zen architecture. The process has already begun, with Ryzen 2000’s models released so far proving to be pleasant alternatives, and the Ryzen 7 2700X successfully outperforming its rival, the Core i7-8700K, in most cases. Now it also turns out that the real big cannons, the 12 and 16 core monsters, are coming soon.

  • Ryzen Threadripper 2950X (16 cores / 32 threads)
  • Ryzen Threadripper 2920X (12 cores / 24 threads)
  • Ryzen Threadripper 2900X (8 cores / 16 threads)

We expect these models to instruct a series running under the name Intel Core i9, respectively. If that happens, it’s practically arguable that AMD’s entire desktop processor portfolio, albeit a breath away, offers more performance than what we can get from Intel. This has been the case for a long time, most recently in the AMD Athlon 64 era.

The following is a list of the more affordable models, we probably don't have to wait long for these either.

  • Ryzen 5 2500X (4 cores / 8 threads)
  • Ryzen 3 2300X (4 cores / 8 threads)
  • Ryzen 3 2100 (2 cores / 4 threads)

The last player on the list promises to be an interesting commodity, this CPU is reported to be dual-core, so it will be deployed against the Pentium.

The mobile offering is also expanding, and we can also welcome a new flagship. It can also be read from the “U” sign that these central units will have outstanding energy efficiency.

  • Ryzen 7 2800U (4 cores / 8 threads)
  • Ryzen 5 2600U (4 cores / 8 threads)
  • Ryzen 3 2000U (2 cores / 4 threads)

In summary, the smaller processor manufacturer is preparing for a full-range attack in the coming months.
