The most common purpose of external hard drives is to easily back up data and move large amounts of data between two computers. Of course, the weakest point of this has long been speed, as copying from / to external storage is slower than with an internal hard drive. Thanks to the marriage of USB 3.0 and SSD, an external storage solution that is smaller, lighter and more durable than a traditional hard drive is now possible.

The Storage POD Mini has been given a fully galvanized aluminum housing that provides both light weight and durability. Its physical extent is 110 x 68 x 10 millimeters (this is roughly the size of an internal 2,5-inch hard drive without the “case”). Thus, based on its size, it fits smoothly in our pockets and since it does not require a separate energy source, it can become a great travel companion.

Of course, this is not such a huge novelty in itself, which is why we would run to buy on the back forehead, but the speed values ​​shown on the tests are already making you think. Not only can data storage be an option for the Storage POD Mini, but video rendering, animation, and high-definition image tasks such as lightning-fast write / read are great. 

Thanks to the SandForce SSD processor, we get far more than what a traditional hard drive can offer us. The maximum speed has also reached 260 MB / s, but where this model really shines is the real performance. While the built-in processor compresses - in real time - the data you want to write, the data waiting to be read is continuously decompressed. This way, the data takes up less space and we can copy it more efficiently.

The Storage POD Mini is also backwards compatible with the USB 2.0 standard, but there are also other useful additional features included in the package. For example, pressing the button named One-Touch Backup backs up the data we specify in advance at speeds of up to 174 MB / s (this feature is supported for many configurations). Lastly, to ensure that security is not neglected, there is a familiar read / write switch for SD cards.

The Storage POD Mini is available in 60-120 and 240 gigabyte capacity, but no end-user price has been mentioned.
