Tried: Kingston DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 - rocket in your pocket

After a long, hard-to-digest Bulldozer test, we now come up with an easy topic in this short article, in which we present with noble simplicity one of the world’s fastest USB flash drives in the person of the Kingston DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 flash drive. Kingston, as a brand, is known to everyone, the company is famous primarily for its memories, secondly for its flash drives, and thirdly for its SSDs, now we are raisins from the second hat. We’ve also gotten used to using the HyperX token only on the manufacturer’s best, fastest products, so if we see something labeled HyperX, we can be sure that that product has above-average capabilities. This statement is also absolutely true for the Kingston DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 flash drive. Why?…

What is a good flash drive? People have different needs, but generally everyone likes that the "USB key" has a large capacity, is fast, small and durable. The DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 is a good flash drive because it knows this, and in addition, it offers almost the maximum in all areas.

Let's look at the exterior first! The DT HyperX 3.0 has the dimensions of an average flash storage, which in numbers means a spatial expansion of 74,99 x 23,29 x 15,9 mm, so it can be carried in any pocket just like a field model. The DT HyperX 3.0 therefore met the size expectations with success. The next criterion is the design. A significant number of HyperX products are characterized by their unique blue color, this feature also appears in connection with this flash drive, as the drive is decorated with metallic "Kingston blue" inlays (the activity LED hidden inside flashes in the same color during operation).

The remaining parts are black, they have been rubberized, which means that in a warm position, with a sweaty palm, it is not difficult to unplug the unit from the USB port. At the end of the drive, if you might want to thread it into your key fob, there is a suitable slot. Of course, Kingston DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 is also backward compatible with previous USB standards, so where 3.0 is not provided, it produces 2.0-compliant values (even for 30 MB / s read and write). This section is also checked!

Let's see the speed! Thanks to the 8-channel design the read speed is 225 MB / s, coupled with a write speed of 135 MB / s. This read / write speed allows you to work with large files without a hitch, either directly from the flash drive, or save your changes right here. It can be very useful for those who need to keep almost all of their data (be it work or even fun) with them at all times. So the speed? It can't be anything other than a star five.

DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 Available in 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB sizes available. We can already store a considerable amount of data on these units. In comparison, a few illustrative data for the 256 GB model: this is enough for 10 Blu-ray discs (25 GB each), 54 DVDs (4,7 GB), 48 mp640 files (3 MB on average) and approximately 4 13 Word document (in various formats and and interspersed with some graphic elements) is sufficient. It’s clear that Kingston didn’t want to compromise on storage space in addition to speed, it would have been funny to have a 473GB pen at that speed, as it would fill up at a write speed of 684MB / s in the blink of an eye.

After the presentation, let the long-awaited test results come!

Test configuration:

Applications used for measurements:

  • AIDA64 v2.00.1720 beta
  • HD Tach 3.0.4.0
  • Crystal Disk Mark 3.0.1 x64
  • ACT Disk benchmark
  • HD Tune Pro 5.00

Because the Kingston Datatraveler HyperX 3.0 is a lightning-fast drive that can only be taken advantage of on a USB 3.0 interface, we saw no point in measuring it on a 2.0-standard connector. It is clear that the standard for the old interface is the bottleneck, so we get the speed that USB 2.0 itself can handle, which according to the manufacturer is 30 MB / s in terms of both writing and reading.

Summary

What can we say about the Kingston DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 (DTHX30) flash drive? If we asked ten people, probably eight would say that the DTHX30 fulfills all their expectations to the maximum and would accept it as a daily companion without hesitation (the remaining two would probably want the same in Hello Kitty paint and pink). All three members of the DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 family - 64 GB, 128 GB, 256 GB - satisfy even the highest demands in terms of speed and capacity, and there are no complaints about the appearance or the use of materials, so the "HyperX label" is well deserved in all respects has been added to this product.

hyperx_spec2

Of course, a DTHX30 flash drive only really makes sense if your computer or notebook has at least one USB 3.0 port, otherwise the old standard will destroy the mind-boggling pace of the DT HyperX 3.0. The pace that the measurements revealed was not a fairy tale at all, in fact, in some tests the speed of the drive even exceeded the factory values, which is quite commendable. Without USB 3.0, HyperX 3.0 is just a big flash drive, a half-arm giant, without a fresh connector, it’s a smarter thing to choose a traditional, high-capacity, but much cheaper unit. Because the Kingston DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 (DTHX30) family is not cheap. If something is so fast, so big, and so much ahead of the others, you have to sacrifice it, and don’t be surprised. The price of the 128 GB unit we visited is GBP 199, which translates to HUF 361 at today's exchange rate (HUF 71).

Of course, this means that not everyone will immediately rush to the store to buy after reading this article, but we trust that these premium units will become cheaper as time goes on. Due to its current price, an editorial recommendation for everyone would be an exaggeration, but those who have sufficient financial resources and want the best will not be disappointed with the DataTraveler 3.0 flash drive, which comes with "24/7" technical support and a 5-year warranty. attached by Kingston. Clearly for us I liked it, not just a little!
