PDF becomes standard

Adobe today announced its intention to make the full specification of the PDF format public for standardization purposes.

Since the publication of the PDF (Portable Document Format) specification \\ ”93, Adobe's document format has become extremely widespread.

Governments and various organizations are increasingly advocating the use of open formats, so it was a logical step for Adobe to ISO standardize the PDF specification.

Versions of the format that specialize in certain sub-areas have long been an ISO standard, and the company’s current efforts are aimed at making the full PDF specification an ISO standard, but of course this process can take many years.
