Samsung BD-P1000: the world's first desktop Blu-ray player!

The Far Eastern mammoth company is the first to launch its next-generation high-definition device from the BDA camp.

Tens of thousands of prospective customers are waiting for the moment when they can take home the first player in the HD format supported by Sony, and now it looks like that moment will come soon. Samsung started shipping the BD-P1000s to the United States the day before yesterday and is expected to be off the store shelves by the end of next week.

Of course, the biggest attraction for the newcomer is the playback of factory Blu-ray content, which with a recording resolution of 1920 × 1080 can be done in up to 1080p format via HDMI. In the case of a player with a digital video connection, it is perhaps natural to cope with the scaling up of traditional DVD publications, the maximum here being 1080p. In addition to BDs, the BD-P1000 also supports CDs, and most DVDs will not have a problem (DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, DVD-R, DVD + RW and DVD + R).

In terms of additional features, Samsung also pampers us with 2 memory card slots, which allow us to handle ten different formats (Compact Flash, Secure Digital, XD Picture Card, Sony Memory Stick, etc.). Of course, still images are also displayed in HD on suitable displays. As for the video section in terms of outputs: HDMI, component, S-video and composite (there is no question about which resolutions are available on component output). Supported audio formats: Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus, DTS, MP3 and LPCM up to 192KHz.

Officially, the BD-P1000 will hit stores on June 25 for around $ 1000. Unfortunately, we do not yet have information on when the Blu-ray standard will officially visit Europe as well. In the meantime, we are left with anticipation and envy for our overseas neighbors.
