There have been serious issues with some Samsung hard drives

Some models clashed with the SB850’s south bridge, but the flaw was soon rectified.

ComputerBase staff had an annoying problem when the system simply did not recognize the SpinPoint F3 hard drive and also SMART reported a spin-up problem. The guys then replaced the HDD with the same type and were shocked to find that the same problems had occurred. All other releases are recognized by the system without any problems.

It was then that they contacted Samsung’s technical department and it turned out that the SpinPoint-F3 and F3-EcoGreen models could have problems if they were operated with an SB850 south bridge. Furthermore, it has also been solved that the error only occurs if the SB850 South Bridge is operating in 6 Gbps mode, i.e. if the user resets the SATA speed in the BIOS settings in the BIOS, the previous standard is 3 Gbps. the problem will not occur and the affected hard disks will work properly.

Samsung, meanwhile, responded to the inconvenience and released a new firmware for the affected storage, which fixes this bug. So anyone who has the aforementioned South Bridge + hard drive combination and has a problem with it has already come to the rescue. By installing the new firmware, the affected HDDs will also run smoothly in 6 Gbps mode.

The new firmware can be downloaded from the manufacturer website.
