Details on Ivy Bridge CPUs

Details on Ivy Bridge CPUsAccording to the latest schedule leaked on the Chiphell website, the naming system will change and several new consumer classes will appear.

It can be seen that Intel will still retain the already well-proven i7 / i5 / i3 markers, but will enter the current 2000 and 800 series levels. The changes are presented in the image below.

Members of the current high-end Core i7 / i5 series are in the 95-watt power class. The new generation of products is already based on Intel's 22 nm technology, which makes the consumption figures even more favorable. The most powerful Core i7 / i5 models will be in the 77-watt and Core i3 series members in the 55-watt TDP category. The technical indicators are similar to the current offer:

  • Core i7 - here all the capabilities of the processor are active.
  • Core i5 - no Hyper-Threading technology and 2 Mbytes reduces third-level cache.
  • Core i3 - L3 size is reduced by 3 Mbytes, dual core, no Turbo Boost function, AES-NI and PP-DRNG.

From the point of view of customers, it is a gratifying phenomenon that the consumption of Ivy Bridge processors will be extremely favorable. Based on the schedule, it looks like the LGA2011 socket accommodates the fastest six-core central unit. With the LGA-1155 housing, "only" quad-core processors can be expected, but this is not a problem at all for most home users.
