The manufacturer raised the clock on the reference card.

A PowerColor one of AMD’s exclusive partners has now made changes to the Radeon 5870. The changes are practically exhausted in increasing the clock speed of the graphics processor and memory chips.

The clock signals for the GPU have been raised from 850 MHz to 875 MHz, while the effective clock signal for the memories has been raised from 4.800 MHz to 4.900 MHz. Increased heat production is controlled by a custom-designed cooler that does not allow temperatures to rise above 68 degrees even under load.
German GameStar colleagues put the factory-tuned model to a quick test, where it held up very nicely. THE Colin McRae: Dirt 2 and the FarCry 2 during, with maximum settings and 4x edge smoothing, the game speed was stably above 60 FPS. This card was produced at a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. By the way, the Dirt 2 game is packaged by the manufacturer next to the card.

A Radeon 5870 PCS + is priced at € 440, which means it’s € 40 more expensive than the reference solution and € 50 more expensive than the smaller Fermi-based card, the Geforce GTX 470.
