Serious error with GeForce GTX 680 cards?

A dangerous and very unpleasant bug is ruining users ’nervous systems. Some cards already on the market may need to be replaced.

An anomaly known as TDR (Timeout Detection and Recovery) has resurfaced due to the GPU Boost procedure. The technology debuted on the GeForce GTX 680 graphics card. The procedure allows the core clock to be set automatically. In order to keep the performance at an ideal level, GPU Boost also takes into account the load, power consumption and current temperature of the graphics processor and increases the pace accordingly. Of course, dynamically changing frequencies also carry voltage fluctuations. The problem is at this point, because the monitoring chip follows a clock signal that slowly follows the fluctuation between the idle and the so-called core base state. Accordingly, unfortunately, the GPU is already ticking just above 1 GHz while the core voltage is at 0,96V. The error occurs primarily under hardware-accelerated browsers, which actively use the graphics processor. Of course, the website is also important, but since the latest editions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera, which are still under development, already use fully accelerated rendering, the HTML5 canvas tag is not a prerequisite.

Opera 12 is also involved.

Through our partners, we have already managed to acquire the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 video card, so we can examine the phenomenon first hand. Based on our own experience, this is a problem that, for some reason, fortunately does not affect our site - at least we haven't had a problem so far. If you have any problems, please let us know as soon as possible! Surprisingly, there was also a TDR error on a competing website (the title is not intentionally described now) that otherwise fully meets the requirements of the W3C validator.

NVIDIA has already indicated that it will take the necessary steps. In practice, this means that the company will replace the Richtek RT8802G controller used so far with a higher performance unit. For now, we can suggest that users avoid the affected webpages, or try to turn off hardware acceleration in that browser. Opera 11.62, which does not yet use this procedure, can also be a good choice. NVIDIA officials say defective copies will be replaced as soon as possible.

Updated!

We were able to find the cause of the error. The phenomenon appears to be related to the current date, which is now the first day of April.
