Cheap good: Seasonic SS-500ET

We’ve already taken the SS-500ET out from the outside, now the roof can come removed.

It’s not too big and by no means crowded for the inner eye. The more delicate elements are surrounded by plastic walls, the ribs are thick and look chunky. The primary side buffer capacitor is a Nippon Chemi-Con brand, 400 F certified to 85 ° C, while the secondary side is mostly 1000 F OST certified to 105 ° C.

As we already know, the fan is made by ADDA (one of the most common brands), model number AD1212MS-A71GL, which means that it is a 120 × 120 × 25, sliding bearing, 12 V air rotator with air delivery at a maximum speed of 2050 rpm. 80,5 CFM - in such a rare situation, it operates with 38 dB of noise. Under the frame of the venti - already seen near the PCB - a transparent plastic was placed, thus giving the inflowing air a more ideal route for the warming components.

It can also be read from the sticker and our summary table that the SS-500ET has two +12 V branches, the combined load capacity of which is specified by the manufacturer at 408 W, while the +3,3 V and + 5 V lines are capable of delivering a total of 130 W. The input voltage range from 200 to 240 V is synonymous with the fact that this type is specifically intended for the European market by Seasonic. It was already found on the previous page, but we would note again that this is a model using active PFC, which, among many other things, holds the 80 PLUS certificate, so we are not technically lagging behind.

In summary, what can we say? In the case of the Seasonic SS-500ET - if you just look at the outside - you get the feeling that you guys have fallen into the cheapness more than enough, let’s say mainly based on the lack of a box and easily removable molex connectors, but the available we did not fall back from the number of connection surfaces either. Nonetheless, the SS-500ET is a good power supply, as the shortcomings listed above are compensated by quality, up-to-date internal and thoughtful, quiet cooling, as well as the reliability and longevity associated with the Seasonic name, so those who are not bothered by the small shortcomings mentioned above they can go shopping!
