Delta Air Lines puts smartphones in the hands of flight attendants
Delta Air Lines, the world’s largest airline, has distributed more than 19 Windows Phones to its employees to make on-board purchases easier. The airline will seek to increase passenger satisfaction with further technical developments in the future.
The Nokia Lumia 8 with Windows Phone 820 includes the following enhancements:
- Near real-time credit card processing for on-board purchases, including the purchase of Delta’s popular Economy Comfort seats. This service will first be introduced on transcontinental and international flights and then extended to all Delta aircraft.
- Customers can receive an electronic invoice (eReceipt) via email
- Customers can use their prepaid credit card for on-board purchases
- Transaction time is accelerating
- Coupons entitling to various discounts can be scanned and validated from the passenger's mobile phone
Delta plans to accompany cabin crew in the future to provide information on individual passengers, providing an even more personalized service. The special application for Windows Phone 8 phones was developed by Avanade based on the Microsoft Dynamics for Retail mobile on-premises sales platform. As part of the agreement, the app will also be available on new Nokia devices over the next three years.
