The Xeon 5500 series retires

The recently launched "Romley" platform retired the Nehalem-based Xeon 5500 "Tylersburg" server processors, whose distribution began in 2009.

The number one processor manufacturer has announced through the PCN (Product Change Notification) document that it will place an order for the Xeon 5500 server processors by September 28th. After this date, the products enter the so-called EOL (end of life) status. The affected processors are shown below. Due to warranty arrangements, Intel will keep a small stock of these in stock.

 - High-end models: W5590, W5580, X5570, X5560 and X5550 
 - Mid-range versions: E5540, E5530, E5520, E5507, E5506, E5504, E5503 and E5502 
 - Entry level products: L5530, L5520 and L5506
