NVIDIA GTX 480 in 4-way SLI!

Although according to NVIDIA's announcement, the cards "only" run in 2-way and 3-way SLI, with EVGA motherboards we can run 4 at the same time.

Unfortunately, so far only EVGA motherboards are capable of this, but it is nonetheless remarkable that we can run up to four such monsters on our computer. In addition to the EVGA X58 Classified 4-way SLI motherboard, the recently released Classified SR2 is also capable of the stunt. Of course, these boards also come with a special SLI bridge that allows for this mode of use.

The manufacturer ran Unigine Heaven during the presentation, but unfortunately they didn’t reveal what numbers the cards produced, either in terms of FPS or score.

This type of run mode (4-way SLI) is not the same as Quad-SLI, as the latter applies to cards that have 2 GPUs on their printed circuit board (such as the 9800 GX2).

Of course, it is questionable how healthy such a work environment is for the cards (they also heat their neighbors right next to each other) as heat production can be very high, but of course cooling can be solved today, and there will probably be specific solutions for this mode soon. Another big problem could be consumption, which would certainly boost the final amount of the electricity bill, but for such a system it is more of a theoretical than a practical problem.

In any case, it’s a remarkable configuration, you don’t have to go next door around the EVGA house for the delicacies, I’m personally looking forward to more like this, as well as the fact that performance data will be leaked to the high-profile later.
