Microsoft Security Essentials is popular

Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) provides real-time protection for home and small business computers.

According to a current survey by security firm OPSWAT, the popularity of the Redmond software giant virus cheater is growing at a rapid rate. Microsoft Security Essentials is the fourth most popular solution with a global market share of 10,08%. AVE (10,96 percent), Avira (11,65 percent) and Avast (16,26 percent) farm before MSE. However, big-name players like ESET (10,06%), Symantec (9,97%), Kaspersky (7,75%) or McAfee (4,74%) have already been overtaken. The situation is even more favorable in the North American market, where the program is already in second place with 14,92 percent. So far, Symantec’s antivirus applications are still 16,09% here, but according to an OPSWAT survey, that number was still 16,65% last year, while Microsoft Security Essentials was in fourth place with 9,94 percent. It is easy to imagine that this market will be turning around this year.

Why is MSE popular? 

Microsoft Security Essentials is also available for small businesses with 10 computers. The antivirus is free, easy to install and easy to use. On the plus side, extensive language support, low resource requirements, and good compatibility. The program has received serious accolades: it has also received Virus Bulletin Ltd.’s VB100 award, certification from West Coast Labs Checkmark and ICSA Labs, although it performs in the midfield in AV-Comparatives ’measurements, respectively. The latter, in turn, confirmed that the MSE runs silently, i.e. produces very few false alarms.
