Movies on the phone - coming soon?

With the new video codec from Actimagine, movies will soon be available on our mobile devices.

It seems that the way will soon be opened for Hollywood film studios to release their films on various mobile devices, in addition to DVDs. With the help of Actimagine's new video codec, which also includes DRM, it is possible to squeeze an entire movie onto a 128 MB memory card, with supposedly very high quality picture and sound. The player program does not "eat" the battery either, on current smartphones you can watch videos for up to 6,5 hours with one charge - according to the company. The program also runs on Series 60, UIQ, Windows Mobile and Pocket PC platforms. In England, we can already buy such films, for example Spider-Man 2 and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. This month, Stuart Little, Ghostbusters and Hitch are also coming — all on memory cards, unfortunately with DRM. The technology will be widely demonstrated in 2006 at CES in Las Vegas and at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona.
