Brutal camera, huge battery and low price for the new trend in mid-range phones.

Introductory

I'm totally honest, I do not like to write about mid-range phones. MInd is preparing for a piece of paper, the design is similar. Front display, rear back, two or three cameras, it shares that. It's pretty much like a lot of years ago when I wanted to sell the tablets and I had to write a new tablet every week, which was just like the previous fifty. It's not just a tedious but man-made task to write and write, which arouses readers' attention.

That's why I was almost overlapping on HOMTOM's phone. Okay, bargain, all bargains in China. Okay, there's 4 GB RAM. Okay, HD + is the display, but wait, imagine that 21 megapixel camera, what's 6300 battery, and what 64 GB is for the mass storage. At that point I turned it back to the price and decided that this phone would still be worth a few lines!

HOMTOM S99 - Exterior

The HOMTOM S99 is an interesting looking phone. No, the display is not here in the back and the big camera is in front, everything is where it needs to be. Which, on the other hand, makes it a little weird that the design follows the line I call classic. The sides are relatively thin, but the frame is moderately wide at the top. I love this kind of look, but fashion doesn’t point to that right now, everyone is forcing framelessness, I note it is superfluous because the mobiles have become so vulnerable that I put an all-weather silicone case on it anyway. So much for thinness…

Curiosity about the outside has not ended yet. It is interesting that the phone gives you an older viewer, that is, 5,5 colos, but the ratio of the page's images is still 18: 9 compliant with the new trend. Because of this, we have a surprisingly narrow, slightly stretched but unfinished phone. It is unusual for this compact size, so the handset is small and it is uncomfortable for the wide phones to be used with one hand for the HOMTOM S99.

Since we are talking about a cheap phone - with surprising extras - don't expect a glass or metal back cover. We have to be content with the good old plastic, which in turn got at least a showy pattern. There is a camera on the front of the phone and two cameras and a fingerprint reader sensor on the back. I won’t tell you about the cameras yet, and we’ll discuss them at the end of the next paragraph.

HOMTOM S99 - Hardware

As with all phone presentations, we start with the central unit here. Mobile is nothing but the old, mature, proven MediaTek MT6750T. I hear, however, that one of our other readers is crawling cautiously and asks: Why does not 6750T finally disappear into the shit? Well, I understand them, but my own experience tells me that this is not such a bad hardware. Indeed, it is not fresh, but in return there are mature drivers, and let's see, enough knowledge and strength are enough today, in return for at least dirt cheap. So it's no coincidence that a lot of phones are being built even today.

Processor

The MediaTek 6750T carries an octa-core processor in its body. In the procedure, the seeds are divided into two groups. The "lower" energy-saving cluster contains four Cortex-A53 cores, their maximum clock speed is 1 GHz. The four cores in the second cluster are responsible for high performance, so the Cortex-A53 cores residing in this cluster already run at 1,5 GHz. In addition to the processor, we also find a graphics accelerator, in this case the ARM Mali-T650 MP860 with two cores and a clock signal of 2 MHz draws the pixels. MediaTek's chip is still made with a 28-nanometer stripe width, but it already supports the ARMv8-A instruction set and, of course, is 64-bit, as we expect from a modern processor.

Memory

If you're on hardware, continue with the memory. after the number and hour of processor cores, this is all the more interested in everyone. Well, HOMTOM S99 has 4 GB LPDDR3 capacity and the built-in storage is no less than 64 GB. For RAM, the 4 GB is still pretty much all-in-one, and the 64 GB is not uncommon at most when you see the price tag at the end of the demo. This was one of the surprises for me, for so much money we rarely get 64 GB.

Display

From the top of the screen you have read the relevant information, let's go into the details now! Most importantly, the built-in panel is based on IPS technology with all its good and bad features. Fortunately, the latter is not very much. As you can read 5,5 col, the size of the pages can easily calculate²+b²=c² in addition to the fact that the ratio of the solvent to 18: 9, or more simply to 2: 1. Since we are not on a math class, I betray the exact dimensions. The 5,5 colos (139,7 mm) diagonals have 2,46 colos (62,48 mm) and 4,95 colos (124,95 mm) pages. Display resolution is HD +, 720 x 1440 pixel, pixel density 293 ppi, and display colors 16 million representing 24 bit color depth. Important information is that the front panel display ratio is 78,84 percent, which means that there is no picture on the front 11,16 percentage, this frame.

Camera

We have come to the second surprise for the camera. One thing is to write a 21 megapixel in media, but I'm used to telephones in China that this 21 megapixel is just 16 in real life, but 21 is only the software replication of pixels, so let's say manufacturers are tricky. Well, even if I tried to unlock HOMTOM S99, all the backing pages were 21 megapixels on the rear camera. At least one is the one because they write 2 megapixels to the other. It can be suspected that this auxiliary apparatus is only used to increase the dynamics of the images, and I can not see any other meaning.

Unfortunately, the sensor for the back camera sensor is not yet known. What we know about it is exactly 21,42 megapixels, making 5344 x 4008 pixel stills and FHD videos, the latter being 30 images per second. It is important to know that the camera has a f / 2.0 aperture lens that is not at all bad.

From the front panel camera we know that an 13 megapixel Sony Exmor RS sensor collects light under the F / 2.2 aperture lens. We might say that it's average, but we're lying because in this category, the 5 or 8 megapixel camera is the average, with the 13 megapixels being abundantly above average.

Radios and sensors

This point I did not bother, the phone knows what it takes. It has a dual channel N-standard wifi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and GLONASS support for navigation. It's good news that the phone handles the native B20 800 MHz LTE band at home, so if we have this internet connection, we can use it here too!

The sensors were not exaggerated. In addition to the usual proximity sensor and light sensor, there is an accelerometer and a geomagnetic sensor as well as other fingerprint sensors.

Battery

Directly left the third surprise to the end, which is nothing more than a battery. We could find that 3000, in the case of similar category phones, is a battery of 4000 mAh capacities. The reason for this is nothing but saving, trying to lower the price of the phone to the lowest possible level. The fact that in this downplay game at HOMTOM is very good because their phone is not less than a battery of 6200 mAh capacity. Feel free to say it's a bountiful value. I'm not saying we're going to see bigger phones in extreme phones, but they're almost in the same category. An important feature is that your phone has a quick charge feature so you do not have to spend half a day on the power socket to charge the cell power.

HOMTOM S99 - Summary

As you can see, the HOMTOM S99 has become a whole honest phone. It features a huge battery, an unparalleled camera and an unusually friendly size. The situation is that this would not be interesting in itself, because if we got a $ 200 - 54 thousand forint price tag, we would wave it, we've seen dozens of it. The situation, however, is that the price of the hOMTOM S99 is only $ 11 - ~ HUF 130 - until June 35, ie until the end of the introductory campaign, which is almost unbelievably low. Honestly, I don't really understand how we managed to get this hardware out of so much money, it's true, it doesn't have to interest us, it's our job to rejoice and replace our old obsolete phone with a HOMTOM S700!
