AMD is struggling with clockwork

The debut of the 2,6 GHz Phenom will slip next year.

Referring to Taiwanese motherboard manufacturers, the online IT newspaper DigiTimes regrets that this year’s Phenom launch will consist of just three members. According to preliminary roadmaps, the 2,6 GHz version should be available later this year, but due to manufacturing technology problems, debut will not be possible until early 2008 at the earliest.

Nonetheless, manufacturers are optimistic about the new generation of processors, and while not a single piece has hit store shelves, I would like to draw the attention of the high-profile to the very competitive price. The 19 and 2,2 GHz quad-cores, available Nov. 2,3, will be available in the OEM market for $ 250 and $ 270, while retail units are expected to cost $ 280 and $ 320. The 2,4 GHz model could join its peers a little later, in mid-December, at a price just over $ 300, according to preliminary estimates.
