Wine 4.0 has been released, we will say right away what has changed.

It's a little better to use Linux again!

Wine is a compatibility software layer that provides an alternative execution of DLLs called by Windows applications, but can even use Windows' own DLLs if the user has them. It may be a solution primarily for those who want to use Linux on their desktop, but some software that is critical to them is not built for the free operating system and only works on Windows. According to the application's website, 26 programs were tested under Wine, and based on the results, the following categories were created: Platinum (works without problems), Gold (works well with the right settings), Silver (works with minor bugs that do not interfere with typical use) , Bronze and Garbage.

The developer comments presented the new version rather modestly, without any particular fuss, although Wine has reached another milestone, in our opinion. The main points are:

  • Vulkan and Direct3D 12 support;
  • High-DPI mode on Android;
  • Game controllers are now supported.

Wine 4.0 is otherwise approx. It contains 6 major and minor improvements, more on these here you can read! You can start downloading the application via the link below.
