AMD Catalyst 11.6 WHQL has arrived and can be downloaded
AMD Catalyst received a major monthly update on schedule, resulting in a version number of 11.6 WHQL, as you might have guessed.
The new driver provides support for AMD's new Fusion "Llano" A-Series APUs with AMD Radeon HD 6000 Series GPUs. Catalyst 11.6 has made available AMD Steady Video Technology, an AMD APP-based software that works with cards that fit into the AMD Radeon HD 6000 family, including APUs, so AMD E450, AMD E300 APU and AMD A8, A6, and A4 series APUs are also supported. The technology performs image stabilization on all frames of a given video material, resulting in a constant, continuous video stream without errors. The materials processed by Steady Video are compatible with all popular players: Adobe Flash player, Windows Media player, Cyberlink PowerDVD, Corel Win DVD, ArcSoft TotalMedia Theater. With the advent of the new driver, AMD has made it possible to accelerate decoding of MPEG-4 part-2 content in Microsoft-based video player applications (via MFT support) to all AMD Radeon 6000 series GPUs. The latest Catalyst 11.6 WHQL, of course, includes a number of other optimizations and fixes, and we can expect speed increases in games such as Dirt 2, F1 2010, Tom Clancy’s HAWX, Crysis Warhead, and Unigine Heaven (OpenGL).
Power increase:
- Crysis: 7% AMD Radeon HD 6000 series for a GPU system.
- F1 2010: 8% in DirectX 11 mode for AMD Radeon HD 6000 series single card and Crossfire systems.
- Far Cry 2: Also for 5% AMD Radeon HD 6000 series single card and Crossfire systems.
- HAWX: 8% for both AMD Radeon HD 6000 series single card and Crossfire systems.
- Unigine OpenGL: 10% AMD Radeon HD 6000 series for a GPU system.
