Introductory
This year for me, if we stay with Xiaomi’s devices, it will be the year of POCO. The F2 Pro wasn’t bad anymore either, but the real big throw was the POCO X3, which was the company’s first self-developed gaming phone.
Even then, when the X3 came out, we knew there were more mobiles coming from them, but exactly what they hadn’t yet been revealed. Now, however, we already know, at least, that one of these is a device called the M3, which has got mid-range hardware and entry-level pricing.
Let's see what the phone has become!
External
From the front, the POCO M3 doesn’t lag behind any modern phone. The relatively small drop-shaped camera island and the almost completely frameless design resulted in the front panel display ratio becoming over 90 percent.
The real curiosity, however, welcomes us on the back cover. Already in the case of the X3, it seemed that the company was trying to create a unique image, in the case of the M3 this trend continued.
The camera island and the area next to it became completely unique, as did the back cover, which, instead of the usual glass or glass effect, was given a skin-imitating cover. This, so invisibly, could have resulted in a less slippery surface that collected less fingerprints.
The phone has an infrared controller, we have two speakers, and we also have a jack connector. The fingerprint sensor, as with the X3, has been moved from the back of the power button to the side of the device.
From the outside, the plastic backing and frame are made in one piece, yet they do not have a cheap effect. The world of design has become modern and youthful.
Hardware
The central unit is the Snapdragon 662, which is an enhanced version of the 660 chip, and is described to have developed the most optimization for cameras. In terms of performance, it's pretty much the same as the Helio G80, which means it's also a powerful eight-core unit. He doesn't lag far behind his bigger brother, the Snapdragon 665, in speed either.
In addition to the proci, we find 4 GB of LPDDR4X memory and either 64 or 128 GB of storage. The former is UFS2.1 and the latter is UFS2.2.
The display is a huge 6,53-inch IPS panel with FHD + resolution. The 2340: 180 aspect ratio display with a resolution of 19,5 x 9 pixels is average based on the paper size, as the contrast ratio to the typical 1500: 1 and the also typical 70 percent NTSC color space coverage are not outstanding.
According to online reports, after taking the phone in hand, the display still does not give a cheap impression. The colors are beautiful, the backlight is strong, even, so the user experience has been perfect.
Kamerák
In terms of cameras, the POCO M3 has embarked on a new path, one that I think few will regret. I’ve been thinking for a long time about what’s the point of putting an unusable ultra-wide-angle camera or a useless macro camera in a cheap phone. Amiker could be a decent main camera at the same cost instead.
Well, with the M3, POCO has embarked on this path, because while the 2 mega macro is still there, the ultra-wide viewing angle has been removed from the range. On the other hand, we got a usable quality 48 megapixel main camera.
The latter has a 1/2 ″ sensor size, a brilliant f / 1.79 aperture, a 6-member lens system, autofocus and, of course, the usual 4 in 1 Super Pixel shooting.
Based on the test images found on the web, the camera produces very high quality images under normal lighting conditions, but you should not be ashamed at night either.
Daytime images have very good colors and a very good dynamic range. The clarity of the images, the distortion, the loss of detail at the edges are essentially imperceptible.
The 1.7 aperture is good for night photography, but the quality of top phones is not expected of it. In poor lighting conditions or images taken specifically in the dark, the software patch has become too strong in some cases, in which case the grain of the image is visible to the naked eye.
So there’s autofocus, but Vibration Reduction didn’t fit into the low price, so when you’re videotaping or shooting, especially in low light conditions, you’ll need a sure hand to take good photos.
Overall, the camera system, impressed with the knowledge of the central chip and software support, performs better than expected from the category.
Other skills
This is the entry level, so neither Wi-Fi 6 nor 5G, but I think no one expected that at this price level yet. However, we have dual-channel Wi-Fi 5 and we have Bluetooth 5.0, so we won’t have a problem with wireless connections either. At Xiaomin, unfortunately, NFC does not fit into this price range either, although I think it would be time for that.
For navigation we get support for GPS, GLONASS, Beidou and Galileo satellite systems and there is also an FM radio.
Among the capabilities, the battery capacity also stands out. The battery, which can also be charged with an 18-watt fast charge, has a capacity of 6000 mAh, which, in addition to the modern chipset, can promise a minimum of 2 days of normal use, but up to 3 days of careful use.
Conclusion
What can we say? The Xiaomi POCO M3 has not become a boring phone. The exterior is flashy, the camera system is above category, the battery is huge.
The center insert will not tip peaks, but the performance of the SP662 should not be underestimated. It will run on all of it, even today’s favorite games, though, we may not be able to play these at the highest resolution.
Of course, this package would be worth nothing if the price wasn’t right. Well, the price of the POCO M3 has become very affordable, so much so that it is also squeezing emerging, smaller, and generally cheaper Chinese manufacturers.
So there’s the right hardware at the bottom of a mid-range, given a manufacturer where the quality is exactly what it should be, since we’re talking about one of the world’s leading manufacturers. And for that, I added a price that I think everyone will like!
