Has AMD reached a tick-tock strategy?

The already well-known development model is coming back to the smaller chip maker.

Has AMD reached a tick-tock strategy?

Based on the now leaked schedule, AMD will perform minor optimizations on its desktop processors in even-numbered years (2018, 2020), making more radical improvements even in odd-numbered years. This principle is eerily reminiscent of the tick-tock scheme that has worked very successfully at Intel for many years. Based on the image below, we can also filter that the company’s engineers don’t sit on laurels much, all three segments (APU, mainstream, HEDT) are renewed every year until 2020.

AMD Ryzen 2018 2020 Roadmap

The Pinnacle Ridge series is surprisingly based on just four products, the Ryzen 7 2800X will not be available yet. So the Ryzen 2000 series comes with an easy-to-understand offering, but of course that doesn’t mean the palette can’t expand over time. Obviously, here things can be heavily influenced by Intel with a percussive response.

Another striking phenomenon is that quad-core processors were housed only on the APU line. It seems AMD no longer intends to play a more serious role in these products.
