AMD has unveiled its six-core server processors

AMD's six-core server processors have started.

Made with 45-nanometer manufacturing technology, the six-core Opterons have entered the public consciousness as Istanbul: like its quad-core predecessors, Barcelona and Shanghai, the 2400 and 8400 series Opterons fit into the 1207-pin Socket F socket, their memory controller is dual-level and DDR2 and DDR 6 MB, 2 KB per L512 cache, 75 W power consumption, and equipped with technologies such as HyperTransport 3.0, AMD-V and HT Assist - the latter can reduce communication traffic between processors, but its impact it only feels for four- or eight-way servers.

The first Istanbul-based servers will be launched this month. The list price for the 2,6 GHz Opteron 2435 is 989, for the 2,4 GHz Opteron 2431 698, for the 2,2 GHz Opteron 2427 455, for the 2,6 GHz Opteron 8435 2649 , and the 2,4GHz 8431 is $ 2149. The HE, SE and EE versions of Istanbul will be unveiled in the third quarter.
