It's no exaggeration, the best buy of the autumn, four cameras, a large battery, a wonderful display, all for just over 30 forints.

We tried it - Amazingly beautiful phone with 4 cameras for just over 30 thousand forints

Introductory

Unfortunately or not, the testers ’lives aren’t sour to the bottom either. Sooner or later, the moment comes when the latest Xiaomi phone doesn’t hit the stimulus threshold either, which turns on the glitter in our eyes. Fortunately, there are times when we are able to be passionate about something again. It could be a clever technical, technological feat, or a surprisingly low price. The latter happened to me now.

promo1

I received a phone that will be dropped off for just 30 thousand forints, and for that money we get a total of four cameras, a larger battery and a larger display than today's average, and the amount of memory and storage is not the level we could get used to from similarly priced devices, nor can there be any complaints about software, since Android 9 is running on it. It is absolutely amazing to me that such hardware can be taken out of so much money, and the question arises as to why it costs much more than branded pieces, much weaker iron. It was a poetic question, obviously the name, the advertising cost and the support have to be paid for, but is it worth sacrificing so much for these…

When the phone appeared in the web stores, it could only be purchased in advance, but I had already put it in the cart and paid for it so I could write about it as soon as possible. I’ve been using it live for a little over a week now, making my calls, navigating, taking photos, so I’m doing what we used to do with a phone. During that time, I gained enough experience to write the test, and although I shoot the joke with it, my passion has only grown since the beginning.

Doogee N20 packaging, accessories

The Doogee phone comes in a matte black box with the oversized N20 inscription in the lower left corner of the cover. I would say this black is elegant, but because of the cardboard material, we can call it more simple.

doogee n20 1

Lifting the lid, we find the phone on the top shelf, surrounded by a sponge border. In the antistatic bag, it can be seen that there is a sticker that can't be said to be nice on the display, with one or two essential features on it. Under the phone is the usual flat box with a back cover. More specifically, the box that used to have the back cover, because the Doogee N20 doesn't come with one. At first, the edge of the figure was a little curved, but then I thought that a budget that was so cramped might not fit on the back. What makes it even weirder is that I’ve seen several unpacking videos on Youtube that the back cover and screen protector are also being sent, so I don’t know if the practice has changed or it was forgotten from mine when packing. Luckily, I got a charging cable and a charging head, as there is a commissioning description - which is completely redundant - and there is also a SIM card needle.

So far, I couldn’t say my new phone was too tossed up, but it only lasted until I took it out of the bag and took the ugly orange foil off the display. Surprisingly, I had a nice, good grip, thin and light phone in my palm.

The handset is essentially no different from today’s standard, which in this case means that if you don’t start testing its type, it could be Samsung, Xiaomi or a thousand other brands of mobile based on the exterior.

doogee n20 9

On the right are the buttons, facing the SIM tray, at the top is a Jack connector (hurray!), And at the bottom is a microphone and speaker grille, including a Micro USB connector.

doogee n20 4

In front, of course, is the display, which has an image diagonal of 6,3 inches (front panel display ratio 92,7%). In the middle of the upper edge is the self-contained camera sitting on a drop-shaped camera island, above which is the almost invisibly thin speech speaker. Frame is almost zero on both sides, a little visible at the top, and the widest at the bottom, where a bar of virtual buttons is taken away from the image for another half inch.

doogee n20 8

The back cover can be black, blue or purple, I bought the latter because I found the black too dull. The photos don’t give back how good they look. Tiny glitters in the paintwork of the back cover, the color is more purple at the bottom, more blue at the top, but as we rotate, the transition changes. it shows wonderfully in hand! On the manufacturer’s side, metal is written on the body of the phone, but there is a side where the back cover is considered plastic, and I can’t decide which of the two. On the back front, the most interesting thing is the camera section, where, like the top phones, three cameras are waiting to finally photograph something.

doogee n20 11

Overall good to handle. It looks really good, not a single crappy or rough detail on it, I didn’t even have an acquaintance who could tell me what kind of manufacturer’s phone he was holding next to the obscured Doogee inscription, but they were clearly guessed at a mid-range device.

Hardware

Processor, memory, mass storage

In the Doogee N20, a not-so-fresh, but especially good central chip provides power. The Helio P23 belongs to the second generation of the Helio series. The processor in the chip has eight cores, which are the Cortex-A53 types. These cores are capable of 2 GHz clock speed and support LPDDR4x memories. The graphics work is performed by the ARM Mail G71 MP2 GPU with a clock speed of 770 MHz.

When it came out, the MediaTek Helio P23 brought a big improvement in multimedia and camera features. The P23 supports 13 megapixel dual camera solutions as well as a virtual depth of field effect. The features mentioned above have also improved at the hardware level, but MediaTek has also done a great job in software. The new CPUs take advantage of MediaTek Imagiq 2.0 technology. The FOD effects mentioned above are mainly due to this technology. In addition, the Helio P23 has a hardware camera control unit with twice the automatic exposure speed of rival solutions. The Helio P23 has also undergone a major upgrade over its predecessor in terms of mobile data connections, supporting more advanced 300 Mbps download and 150 MBps upload speeds, as well as dual-card VoLTE / ViLTE technology, and was the first in the industry to have this chip faster and provide a more consistent connection for users using the two cards.

promo7

It is common for category peers to choose from variants with 2, 3, or 4 GB of memory, or 16, 32, or 64 GB of storage. Of course, the more RAM and ROM, the more expensive the phone, the better-equipped ones are not always worth buying. In the case of the Doogee N20, we don't have to pick, we automatically get the best packaging, there is nothing else. The price includes 4 GB of LPDDR4x memory and 64 GB of storage. That's why there's a big red dot!

Synthetic tests

Of course, we also ran the usual tests on this mobile. The numbers themselves don’t mean much, but they still provide a solid point of reference for those who are curious about performance. The results came as no surprise, we already had a mobile phone with Helio P23. This unit doesn’t tip peaks, but it knows as much as it takes for software to run smoothly, without stuttering. Obviously, I’m not thinking about the latest games, but the apps used in everyday life.

Camera

Many of you are probably interested in what kind of cameras are in your cell phone. Well, the manufacturer shamefully withholds a lot of information. All we know is that of the three cameras on the back, the main camera is based on a Sony Exmor sensor and has a resolution of 16 megapixels and an aperture of f / 2.0. Next to it is an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera that is best used indoors, and the third camera is another 8-megapixel unit that acts as a depth sensor and is responsible for blurring the background. The front panel self-timer camera is also 16 megapixels, but we couldn’t pre-mine any information about it.

promo3

We have a plethora of software capabilities to take good photos. There is artificial intelligence with object / scene recognition, there is a timer and automatic image capture with smile detection. We get the usual facial enhancement functions, they can even be used in real time when making a video. There is a panorama image and time laps function, and we also get a self-timer for shooting. This sounds good so far, but what do cameras know in reality?

doogee n20 6

The main camera, with its 16 megapixels, isn’t exceptionally good in terms of resolution, but that’s when I used to bring up my Xiaomi Mi MIX phone, which only has 12-megapixel cameras, and then it’s still good. So regardless of the resolution, a camera can be good or bad. And the Doogee N20 is like this, good and bad. The images are sharp enough, but the colors are slightly offset. Not offensively, just enough to meet the needs of our colorful-smelling world. What I didn't like, however, is that too much light loses a lot of detail and the image tends to burn out. We can improve this a bit, because by clicking on the display, there is an adjustable brightness control next to the focus frame. Pulling a little lower already improves the quality a lot. The image is not distorted, the edges are sharp enough, the details can be removed.

In the field of videos, the quality is beyond my expectations, I add nothing good I did not expect from him. In the past, I had an Ulefone Armor 6, which I would have expected something from, but then I didn't consider it suitable to upload the test video to the article. In comparison, the Doogee N20 is capable of enjoyable production, although the auto focus sometimes behaves a bit cluttered. Vibration reduction is also obtained in a way that is not expected at all from the category. At least on paper, because there is no menu item to turn it on and off, but during recording, as if there really is something. So let’s believe it is because there are so many extras in this phone that the price doesn’t justify that even that can be there among the capabilities.

Let the auxiliary cameras come now. The test programs only identify two separate units in the phone, which is due to the fact that we can’t take photos with the depth sensor, nor is it there. On the other hand, it has a role in ensuring that the image quality is not a problem when blurring the depth, and in our case we do not encounter any painful errors.

Wide angle 8 MP Main camera 16 MP

However, the 8 mega wide-angle unit is a full-fledged camera, which can be switched in the camera application. There are already problems with the quality of this. It doesn’t mean too many good dots in the first place if 8 megapixels are available, but if the quality were good, we would agree with it. Here, however, the quality is not good either. The images are also pixelated and quite noisy, and the lens is a little fisheye that optically stretches the image apart. It was already on the display that it was as if something was sitting in the photos, and this, although not as pronounced as I thought, was there in the photos. So this wide angle is good for wanting to quickly send someone an indoor photo on Viber or Facebook Messenger, but since you’re not going to take award-winning pictures with that, I’d bet on it at a higher stake.

Display and other capabilities

We go beyond the most important things, but there is still something interesting here, but at least some data that is surprising, to put it mildly, from such a cheap phone. The display, for example, has FHD + resolution, which is unfortunately not common at all in this $ 100 category. The colors of the IPS panel are bustlingly good, the contrast is also very good. The backlight is even and strong, so the mobile is great to use even in the sun. Fortunately, the 6,3-inch diagonal panel only has the usual tiny, not-so-water-disturbing drop-shaped camera island. The glass above the panel is a bit reflective, but we’re almost used to it. It’s not suitable for a shaving mirror, so let’s get to the point.

promo6

Another surprising detail is the size of the battery. In this price range, the 3000 mAh capacity is the usual, but the Doogee N20 got a 4350 mAh battery. This is a plus of more than 30 percent, I had a loose two-day operating time on a single charge under normal use. Of course, continuous navigation, a large display that works a lot, fully pushed brightness, continuous video viewing greatly reduce the operating time, but this is not surprising.

promo5

For the other capabilities, as with the cameras, Dogee does not provide detailed information here either. According to the test programs, there are not too many sensors, gravity sensors, proximity sensors and brightness sensors are packed into the device, but this can be done not by the phone but by the manufacturer of the central unit. No information is available about Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, according to system analysis programs, Bluetooth 4.0+ is at least 4.0 or better. Wifi supports 5 GHz networks according to several programs, but I haven’t seen the 5 GHz hotspot I created with my Xiaomi phone, so I treat this 5 GHz support with strong reservations. GPS and GLONASS support is available for satellite navigation.

Use and experience

I always feel that this chapter is the most important part of the article. Of course, it’s important to know what the camera, for example, does, but it’s still more important to feel comfortable with the phone during everyday use. And in that respect, the Doogee N20 excels!

promo8

From the first minute, I feel like I was heavily cheated here. It is simply impossible for a 30 forint phone to be so good. Beautiful display, lots of cameras, long battery life, and a really convincing exterior. Moreover, not only is it convincing, it looks really deceptively good, it is good to hold, good to use. The assembly is flawless, you can say exemplary, it doesn't crack, it doesn't crack, it's stiff enough, at least I didn't manage to unscrew my neck.

In my Facebook group, I was asked to try out the GPS and speakers especially carefully because they don’t excel in the little salt, the Doogee N10. Well, you won't have any complaints about navigation. He saw a surprising number of satellites inside and out of the room, and even more outside. I use Waze for navigation, there was no insecurity on this, in fact, I often felt that there could be a maximum 2-3 meter error in the position. Finding satellites doesn't take long either, the navigation is also exemplary, so we can put a check mark here.

doogee n20 s1doogee n20 s2

Since I used the phone sharply, I had time to test both the microphone and the speakers. The microphone, at least on the other side of the “line,” is flawless. The speaker could be a little louder, but I wouldn’t dare say it at all. The sound is pretty clear anyway, so there was no problem with comprehension.

What’s wrong, though, at least while listening to music, is the lower speaker, which just jumps the level of the good old Sokol radio. By no means buy it for the next house party, because you burned it badly.

doogee n20 3

However, the headphone output works well. With the Xiaomi wired earpiece - a more expensive version - the sound quality is completely acceptable, I couldn’t tell the difference between the output of my notebook and the phone. Although the FM radio is error-free, it found the channels quickly. The sound quality is radio, of course, but that’s not surprising. Of course, this can only be used through headphones, but this is common, with the radio microphone on almost every phone as well as the in-ear cable.

Many people complain about fingerprint readers on these cheap phones, and I also find that their inaccuracy and speed are extremely annoying. The Doogee N20’s fingerprint sensor is absolutely accurate, but responds a peasant hair slower than today’s top phones. This is understandable, the hardware in the phone is not top notch either.

doogee n20 5

I’ve written more about cameras above, I can’t add much to that. Maybe the fact that the self-camera, like the main camera, does not like large differences in light, the image burns out, but there is no way to adjust the brightness, so make sure that strong, infiltrating sunlight does not lose much of our hair (already, if there is anything left over the years).

The phone is running Android 9, the security package isn’t from the last century either, so we’re fine with that too. On the interface, if everything is true, then nothing has been customized, maybe just switching between cameras at the camera is a rarity. Whether pure Android is good or not, I don’t want to open a debate, obviously there is someone who comes in and someone else doesn’t. To me, after many years of Xiaomi-MIUI combos, the setup options seem poor, but we’re going to realize that this is the diversity of MIUI, not the poverty of pure Android.

doogee n20 7

I rarely get enthusiastic about a phone, but as I wrote in the introduction, that’s why I’m capable of it for mobile. Sure, I have a much stronger phone than that, but I don't guarantee that it's much prettier. It’s simply perfect, with hardware strength, memory, storage and battery capacity positioning it at least one category higher than what we have to leave at the checkout for it. It really feels good to use, and it's not the last thing that those who don't want or can't afford a hundred thousand forints mobile phone don't have to be ashamed of their phone either.

Closing Remarks

I started the article with this phone as the best buy of the fall, and I can only repeat that now, at the end of the article. Lots of better than better phones are swept to me by the wind, which are really very frank and also in the affordable category in terms of price, but the goods are really well shot. We expect as much and receive exactly as much from them as we can expect from the price tag. There is no scam or pro.

doogee n20 10

The Doogee N20, on the other hand, competes in something completely different. In essentially every area, it gives more, and much more, than its price would justify. Proci, memory, battery, camera, display and external. In all respects, I would dare to rank one or even two classes higher, and if they were asked for 110 thousand instead of the $ 33 price of roughly 40 thousand forints, I wouldn't say that they would give it dearly.

We can buy it for the above price between October 14 and October 21, currently 95 more pieces are available for $ 109,99, or about 33 thousand forints. If you liked it, you can find it here:
