View of Acer's 15-inch ultrabooksEncouraged by the market success of its 11- and 13-inch ultrabooks, respectively, Acer decided to cut its ax into a larger tree. Exactly 15 inches.

According to sources, these models will already be provided by Pegatron to Acer. We don’t know much information about the specification of the models yet, but we can draw some conclusions based on the expected end-user price. Based on its $ 699 price tag, it is likely to be similar in performance to the Aspire S3, complete with a lower-end SSD drive.

101a

The current ultrabooks are made on Wistron’s production lines, although the alliance with Pegatron is not surprising, as their sales this year will be around 18,99 million devices by the end of the year, coupled with an astonishing 22 percent increase. It is not yet clear when these 15-inch models will hit the market, but perhaps the middle of 2012 seems like a realistic date.

In light of Apple’s plans to release the 15-inch models of the MacBook Air family next year, it seems like a very smart move from Acer to come up with ultrabooks with similar knowledge, yet it will shoot well below the price of apple machines at the final price tag. And by the way, if they succeed, other competitors (ASUS, Lenovo and Toshiba) are likely to follow Acer’s example. We, the users, can only do well.
