A pardon for cryptocurrencies?

A pardon for cryptocurrencies?

No one needs to brush up on how big a player Google is in the online advertising market.

A pardon for cryptocurrencies?

The new directive on search engine giant financial services, which will come into force in June 2018, will be a huge slap in the face for many. Ads will not be allowed to run after this date for:

  • Binary options and their equivalent, otherwise named
  • Cryptocurrencies and related content (including primary issuance, cryptocurrency exchanges, cryptocurrency wallets, cryptocurrency trading advice)

Advertising is also prohibited for ads on aggregator and partner sites that address:

  • Foreign exchange contracts (CFDs)
  • Rolling spot foreign exchange transactions
  • Financial spread betting
  • Binary options and their equivalent, otherwise named
  • Cryptocurrencies and related content.

Of course, there has been an active debate on the internet since the announcement as to whether this is the last nail in that particular coffin, or whether that spirit can no longer be locked back into the bottle. Either way, it’s so certain that hard days are coming for cryptocurrencies.
