Another development in the NVIDIA SLI-Intel X58 case

Even in the absence of the nForce 200 chip, SLI will be possible on cards equipped with the Intel X58 chipset.

In mid-July still about we reported, that with the inclusion of the nForce 200 chip, each Intel X58 board will support not only ATI CrossFireX, but also NVIDIA SLI. Yes, but NVIDIA's "additional" chip requires a custom-designed PCB, and it increases the production cost by about $30, which would naturally be reflected in the end-user price. It is no wonder that this solution did not win the favor of motherboard manufacturers. At NVIDIA, they reacted to the "backlash" of the partner companies in time, and decided to introduce a completely different, much more sympathetic solution to overcome the problem.

Motherboard manufacturers can make their X58 models SLI-capable at NVIDIA's Santa Clara laboratory: verification codes integrated into the BIOS activate the NVIDIA Scalable Link Interface. By definition, this also means that the SLI license is still not in Intel's possession, since it bypasses the "blues" and "reaches" the partners, moreover, this implementation currently only applies to one Intel chipset, the X58. However, the confusion can be further aggravated by the fact that some Intel X58 boards still do not have SLI, but in the absence of "certification" it will be cheaper, so whoever is thinking about ATI CrossFireX anyway, it is worth the few thousand to choose from models that cost HUF less and do not require SLI Certification.
