The Radeon X1950 GT is coming!

AMD / ATI's latest high-end video card, the Radeon X1950 GT, could hit store shelves in the first quarter of this year.

Positioned between the X1950 Pro and the X1900 GT, the GPU, codenamed RV1950LE, runs at 570 MHz, while the 500-bit 256MB of GDDR256 memory has an effective clock of just 3 GHz. This means 1,2 and 75 MHz lower operating frequencies compared to the X180 Pro, while compared to the X1950 GT, we can also talk about a 1900 MHz lag in terms of the graphics processor, but the two cards have the same characteristics in the memory clock.

An important difference compared to the X1900 GT is that, like the X1950 Pro, it is also an 80 nm bandwidth GPU, as opposed to the predecessor model’s 90nm manufacturing technology. Thus, we can expect lower heat output and energy consumption characteristics for the new card.

For the X1950 GT, which supports native CrossFire mode, we also have some downsides: on the one hand, it will not have a video input, and on the other hand, due to the smooth sale of X1900 GTs in stock, it will only be available with certain restrictions. Unfortunately, we do not have further details on this.

AMD delivered the first copies of the Radeon X1950 GT to manufacturers in December, with final touches to be completed later this month, while series production could begin in early February. Software support will be provided by the ATI Catalyst driver, which will be available in late January.
