New Intel Core 2 processors on the horizon

From Intel’s latest schedule, we can find out what dual- and quad-core Core 2 processors we can expect in 2007.

The family of 2 + 2 core processors will be expanded with the 2007 GHz Q2,4 in early 6600, followed by the 2,13 GHz Q6400, which will arrive sometime around the second and third quarters.

There is much more buzz in the field of dual-core processors. The previously described E6390 was cancelled, which could essentially be considered a "dumb" E6400, as Intel's virtualization technology and vPro support would have been left out of it. The 2,33 GHz E6650 has been renamed E6550, the technical data has not changed.

The arrival of the round 3 GHz E6850 is still expected in 2007, but the manufacturer has not yet announced a more precise release date and processor price.

The new schedule includes two new Core 2 Duo units: the E6420 and E6320 have the same clock and FSB value as the already well-known E6400 and E6300, the only difference being the size of the second-level cache.

Boasting a low clock speed, 800 MHz FSB and 2 MB, the Core 2 Duo E4xxx series will eventually consist of two members: the 1,6 GHz E4200 was eventually canceled, leaving only the E4300 and E4400.

We should close our news with Intel's graph, which clearly shows the extent to which the manufacturer envisages the spread and space of dual- and quad-core processors to the detriment of the running Pentium 4, Pentium D and Celeron CPUs.
