New news about the NVIDIA four-headed dragon
More and more details are coming to light about Quad SLI devices.
It has long been a known fact that the devices required to use Quad SLI will be based on a printed circuit that takes up double space but has only one connector. Now, however, thanks to Foxconn, which has just entered the graphics accelerator market, we have the latest information on the GeForce 7900 GX2. The cards differ slightly from the GTX in specification:
- Core clock speed: 500 MHz
- Memory clock: 1200 MHz
- Memory size: 1024 MB
Quad SLI adapters have a 48-fold PCI Express connection: 32 of them are reserved for communication between the two G71 chips and 16 for external communication. The machine used for the presentation ran a program that used 32 times the anti-aliasing, which shows a tremendous performance. The data on energy consumption is nowhere near as rosy, the system consumed about 650 watts under load.
According to Inquirer, the GeForce 7900 GX2 will also work on motherboards with nForce4 and nForce4 SLI chipsets. The price can be bet around $ 1000. So the question is even in the decision of the real fanatics: is it worth spending half a million forints only on parts that, although they provide the absolute maximum when purchased, are considered completely obsolete in some areas one and a half years later?
